The great outdoors is the best place for an adventure. You can feed your wanderlust, at the same time, be fit and enjoy nature’s beauty. Camping the best option to get a holistic experience. But given the harsh, unpredictable conditions of nature, we need to be prepared for our camping adventure. As Bear Grylls says, “The right gear can save your life”. Take it from the experts. You also need to pack light. So, what gear do you need to pack? Here are some necessary items you need to bring along with you when out on your adventure.
A tent – Duh!
The whole point of camping is to stay the night in the great outdoors. What better way to do that than in a tent. Tents come in all shapes and sizes but are generally determined by the number of people it can hold. The most common is the 4-person and 6-person tents. You could also get tents that have various “rooms” or compartments so you could separate your sleeping space from others in the tent. What you need to be sure of though, is that the tent is fully waterproof and bugproof.
A sleeping bag makes the difference between having a good night’s sleep and not getting any sleep at all. In many outdoor situations, you may find yourself sleeping on the bare ground. A sleeping bag provides much-needed protection and padding from the hard, jagged ground that may be laden with rocks and other sharp objects.
Sleeping bags are also great for everyday use. Say you have a friend come over to spend the night at your house, you can let him/her sleep in a comfy sleeping bag. Sleeping bags also are thick and provide adequate insulation from the cold at night. Some come with netting to keep bugs and critters out of your way.
A torchlight or lamp
When it starts getting dark, you need some serious visibility. This is why a torchlight can make the difference between life or death. You will need a torchlight/flashlight for these reasons:
- To see where you’re going
- To light up your tent
- To signal to passersby or to call for help (SOS signal)
- To catch bugs that are attracted to light
A mini stove
Fire is essential for survival. What better way to have a fire than to bring a mini stove with you? Lighters are practical too, but you can’t cook food with them. A mini stove or even a Bunsen burner could ease with cooking. Bring along a small gas canister to fuel it along with a pot or pan for holding your food and you’re good to go. You could also use the stove to light your bonfire.
On any trip, you need to stay hydrated. Water is the best liquid to consume when outdoors. This is why a water bottle is vital as part of your gear. You can use the water bottle to collect rainwater or simply collect it from a clean stream nearby.
Now that you know what to bring for your adventure, go ahead and get your gear for your camping trip.
