What to Consider When You Buy a Microwave

Microwave ovens are one of the most versatile electrical appliances that are commonly seen in most Filipino homes today. A microwave oven enables you to reheat food, bake, grill, and many other creative ways to cook your food. There is currently a wide selection of microwave ovens in the market provided from trusted brands such as Electrolux, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Sharp which are sold across a variety of prices. Despite having so many to choose from, selecting the right microwave oven to fit your needs can be relatively simple so long as you take into consideration the factors mentioned below:

Size

When it comes to microwave ovens, size does matter. As microwave ovens take up space, you will need to consider how much space you are willing to give up for the microwave. Moreover, your microwave oven should also be able to accommodate the number of people you are preparing food for. If you are feeding a family, you should go for a bigger model that can handle larger dishes. However, if you are living alone, a compact size model should be sufficient.

Wattage

When it comes to wattage, it is fairly simple. The rule of thumb is that the higher the wattage, the faster the cooking time will be. A 1,000-watt microwave oven for example, will cook quickly and efficiently compared to a model with 700 watts or less. Hence, if you are cooking for a large family, then you should have a unit with a larger wattage.

Type of Microwave Ovens

The most common type of microwave oven available in the market is countertop units. Although they take up counter space, they are typically cheaper and easier to install compared to the other options. There are also over-the-range microwave ovens that are vented to the outside. These units usually require installation by an electrician. The plus side though is that they free up counter space. Built-in microwave ovens are the third option and are built into a wall and surrounded by cabinets which enable you to save space. However, these models tend to more expensive than other types.

Features

Many microwave ovens today offer a flurry of features such as defrosting or specialized cooking buttons. These features increased the unit’s versatility and the indicators enable you to whip up quick meals when you are in a rush and simplify the cooking process.

Price

It goes without saying that the price of a microwave oven is an aspect that you must consider. Pricing for microwave ovens can vary significantly depending on the type, size, and brand of microwave. As with other purchases, you should set a maximum budget and prevent from spending over the amount. Typically, units with more features will cost more so you need to consider if you will be using them regularly.
