Asia Video Children of the Dark (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 8.49 USD from YesAsia
Asia Video Children of the Dark (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 421.00
Based on a Yan Sogil novel, Children of the Dark (a.k.a. Yami no Kodomotachi) provides a devastatingly realistic portrait of the horrors of child prostitution and abuse. Director Sakamoto Junji (Kao) bites boldly into a thorny issue with direct depictions of the state of brothels and extent of violence that occurs in a Thai child prostitution ring. The uncompromising images and narrative Sakamoto put onscreen at times brought the film under fire, but Children of the Dark is an undeniably compelling and hard-hitting expose of a very real problem. Rounding up the A-list cast of Eguchi Yosuke (Tsukigami), Miyazaki Aoi (Eureka), Tsumabuki Satoshi (Nada Sou Sou), and Sato Koichi (The Magic Hour), the film follows the harrowing story of a Bangkok-based Japanese reporter investigating children's organ harvesting and a social worker searching for an abducted child, and the horrible truths they uncover.

Asia Video The Hidden Fortress: The Last Princess (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 421.00
Kurosawa classic Hidden Fortress gets a blockbuster makeover in the 2008 epic remake The Hidden Fortress: The Last Princess (a.k.a. Kakushi Toride no San Akunin: The Last Princess). Director Higuchi Shinji's last two films, The Sinking of Japan and Lorelei, are good indicators of what's new on the menu. Keenly aware of how to make a film a cinematic event, Higuchi updates the classic story with thrilling action, striking special effects, and idol leads, while at the same time retaining the original's core narrative and themes. Nagasawa Masami (Crying Out Love in the Center of the World) stars as the naive spoiled princess whose eyes are opened by her journey into the real world, and popular actor Hiroshi Abe (Trick) steps into the hallowed shoes of Mifune Toshiro to play her grizzled samurai protector. Arashi's Matsumoto Jun (Hana Yori Dango: Final), in a role greatly expanded in comparison to the original film, plays the hot-blooded peasant who becomes the princess's unlikely hero and romantic interest.

After the Akizuku clan fall in defeat to rival clan Yamana, Princess Yuki (Nagasawa Masami) and general Rokurota (Hiroshi Abe), take cover in a hidden fortress, along with their clan and gold treasury. Fortuitously stumbling into the hideaways, brash young miner Takezo (Matsumoto Jun) and his bumbling sidekick Shinhachi (Miyagawa Daisuke) hatch a daring plan to help transport the gold out of enemy terrain - in exchange for a share of the stash, of course. With assassins hot in pursuit, Yuki disguises as a male and ventures into the real world with Rukurota and her peasant companions, getting her first taste of danger, toil, and budding romance with the strong-minded and willful Takezo.

Asia Video Bandage (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 421.00
No stranger to the depiction of music in film, Love Letter and All About Lily Chou-Chou director Iwai Shunji co-wrote and produced Bandage, a drama about the Japanese music world. Originally a radio drama written by Iwai and author Kan Chika (who also wrote the novel), the film marks the directorial debut of Iwai's longtime music producer Kobayashi Takeshi, who also produced the music in the film. Also making his film debut is KAT-TUN's Akanishi Jin, who plays the charismatic lead singer of a rock band during the 90s band boom. The heart of the story, however, lies in Asako, the devoted manager of the band played by rising actress/singer Kitano Kii (who also starred in the Iwai-produced Halfway). With its great creative team and hot young stars, Bandage was one of the most anticipated Japanese youth films of 2010, breaking the film studio's record for the number of advance tickets sold for a live-action film.

One day, high school student Asako (Kitano Kii) is invited to go to a concert by indie band Lands. Almost immediately, she falls in love with both the band and its lead singer Natsu (Akanishi Jin). By chance, she becomes the band's manager, and she quickly discovers how little glamour there is working in the music business, despite becoming friends with Natsu. When the band decides to leave artistic integrity behind for fame, will Asako's loyalty to the band - and Natsu - be compromised?

Asia Video Hanamizuki (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 421.00
Singer-songwriter Hitoto Yo based the lyrics for the ballad Hanamizuki on a series of e-mails she received from a friend after the September 11 terrorist attacks. About overcoming obstacles on the road to eternal love, the song became an award-winning hit that has consistently been one of the most requested songs in Japanese karaoke parlors nationwide since its release in 2004. In the tradition of music-derived pure romance films like Signs of Love and Tears for You, director Doi Nobuhiro (Be With You) now brings another hit song's story to life with Hanamizuki.

Written by longtime television scriptwriter Yoshida Noriko - who also adapted the song Nada Sou Sou into Tears For You - Hanamizuki is now a story about two young lovers torn apart by circumstances who continue to stay in love for over a decade. Actress-singer Aragaki Yui (Koizora) and Ikuta Toma (Ningen Shikkaku) have plenty of romantic chemistry as the film's central couple, while Mukai Osamu (Hotaru no Hikari 2), Yakushimaru Hiroko (The Always series), Matsushige Yutaka (Sukiyaki Western Django), and Arata (Air Doll) also provide strong supporting performances. With attractive stars and the equally attractive scenery of Hokkaido, Tokyo, and New York, Hanamizuki is the perfect film for the pure romance film fan in everyone.

Sae (Aragaki Yui) and Kohei (Ikuta Toma) first meet when the latter tries to help Sae get to her driving test. However, the ensuing accident during the effort causes Kohei to quit school and work for his fisherman father (Matsushige Yutaka), while Sae loses her chance to study in a prestigious Tokyo university. The two eventually fall in love, but are separated when Sae takes a second opportunity to go to Tokyo. Even though they are committed to a long-distance relationship, Sae's friendship with handsome photographer Junichi (Mukai Osamu) and Kohei's struggle to keep his father's business afloat threaten to drive them apart.

From 1972 to 1983, legendary manga artist Tezuka Osamu wrote his own take on the life of Siddhartha Gautama (who later becomes Buddha) with the Buddha manga series. Now, anime director-producer Morishita Kozo (Saint Seiya, Dragonball Z) adapts the entire series into an epic theatrical anime trilogy. The Great Departure is the first installment, and it reorganizes the manga's narrative to tell two stories - the life of Siddhartha as a young prince, and the journey of Chapra, a slave of lower caste who becomes a soldier.

In addition to Sakai Masato (Golden Slumber) as Chapra, the visually splendid adventure also feature the voice talents of Yoshioka Hidetaka (Always), Mizuki Nana, and Yoshinaga Sayuri. With the support of major Japanese film production companies and the Japan Art Council, The Great Departure is the beginning of a true Japanese motion picture event.

Asia Video Retribution (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)

Japanese writer-director Kurosawa Kiyoshi made his international breakthrough in 1997 with the acclaimed psychological thriller Cure. Renowned for his horror titles, the director has a knack for getting under the skin and into the mind with deep, unsettling films that challenge the boundaries of the genre. A decade after Cure, Kurosawa teams up with producer Ichise Taka (Ring, Ju-On) and again actor Yakusho Koji, the star of Cure and 2003's Doppelganger, for Sakebi (Retribution). Like Cure, Sakebi stars Yakusho as a weathered detective who begins to lose himself in a serial murder investigation, bringing up perplexing questions of self, memory, and the fragility and perils of the human mind. From there, Kurosawa takes the film to even more startling and disturbing places, soberly exploring the darkness that brings people together. Besides the classic pairing of Kurosawa and Yakusho, the film also features the remarkable supporting cast of Odagiri Joe (Yureru), Ihara Tsuyoshi (Letters from Iwo Jima), Konishi Manami (Udon), and Kase Ryo (Nice no Mori).

Detective Yoshioka (Yakusho Koji) is in charge of a serial murder case, and in the course of investigation, he discovers his own fingerprints and personal effects at a murder scene. As more and more clues point to him, Yoshioka tries hard to make sense of the situation, but it's as if a cloud hangs over his mind and pieces of his life are missing in darkness. His relationship with his longtime girlfriend Harue (Konishi Manami) feels empty and distant, and his partner Miyaji (Ihara Tsuyoshi) is starting to suspect him. Unsure if he can even trust himself, Yoshioka goes to police psychiatrist Takagi (Odagiri Joe) for help, but the therapy can't seem to clear his mind of shadows and spectres. Is Yoshioka actually hunting himself?

Asia Video Tekkon Kinkreet (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 396.00
Directed by Animatrix producer Michael Arias, Studio 4C's Tekkon Kinkreet is a beautifully chaotic vision of violence, urbanity, freedom, and nostalgia rendered in stunningly beautiful animation. Arias first made a pilot for Tekkon Kinkreet in 1999, and it took years to make the film a reality, but the journey has been well worth it, with Tekkon Kinkreet winning Best Film at the 2006 Mainichi Film Awards. The film is based on the classic 1993 manga Black & White by Matsumoto Taiyo, whose other works include Ping Pong and Blue Spring, both of which have been adapted into feature films. The title Tekkon Kinkreet comes from the Japanese words for "iron", "concrete", and "muscle", and that is exactly what the film embodies with its visually astounding decaying urban landscape and roguish child protagonists, voiced by Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari (Letters from Iwo Jima) and starlet Aoi Yu (Hula Girls).

Known together by the moniker Neko ("Cat"), street urchins Kuro and Shiro are made for each other. Kuro is tough, smart, and streetwise, while Shiro is na ve, childish, and prone to giggling. Together they run wild in the mean streets of Treasure Town, making home in an abandoned car. Free of parents, school, and responsibilities, the invincible duo occupy their time by fighting turf wars, constantly brushing with the law and yakuza alike, and exploring every corner of that beloved rundown neighborhood they call home. When a sinister corporate boss unleashes plans to redevelop Treasure Town, the boys are determined to save their home, but this may be a fight too big for even them.

Asia Video Koizora (VCD) (English Subtitled) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 396.00
Though "based on a mobile phone novel" may not sound like a ringing endorsement, one would have to be in Japan to understand the phenomenal popularity of Koizora (a.k.a. Sky of Love). Penned by an anonymous writer who claims the controversial heartwrenching story to be her own experience, Koizora sold over ten million downloaded copies in its first year alone, and went on to sell in the millions in published form. The story inspired a manga, spin-off stories, and now a feature film starring Japan's latest it-girl, Aragaki Yui. Already a popular model and TV actress, Aragaki made the leap to stardom in a big way in 2007 with both her feature film and J-pop debuts. Her performances in Koizora, Koisuru Madori, and Waruboro have already garnered her Best New Performer honors at the 50th Blue Ribbon Awards. Equally fair-featured teen heartthrob Miura Haruma from Catch a Wave and 14 Year Old Mother and rising actor Koide Keisuke (Kisaragi) star opposite Aragaki in this pure love youth melodrama. At the helm is popular television director Imai Natsuki (Orange Days), making her feature film debut.

Koizora largely succeeds through its touching story and photogenic young leads whose onscreen chemistry may charm the most jaded of viewers. Aragaki and Miura star as high school sweethearts Mika and Hiro. Wide-eyed girl-next door Mika falls head over heels into first love when she meets bleached-hair delinquent Hiro. But love forces them to grow up too early as they face grave trials and tragedies together.

Legendary Japanese director Ichikawa Kon's 1976 film The Inugami Family, a.k.a. Inugamike no Ichizoku, holds a very special place in Japan's long tradition of supernatural suspense. Based on Yokomizo Seishi's epic work, the slow-burning family murder mystery is a highly influential title in the director's celebrated filmography and just about required viewing for Japanese cinema fans. In 2006, the 91-year-old auteur returned to the director's chair for what would be his last film to remake his own most representative work, updating the classic film for contemporary audiences. An uncannily faithful remake of the original film, the unsettling The Inugamis (a.k.a. Murder of the Inugami Clan) delves into a tangled web of murderous lies and deceptions that is tearing apart a wealthy multi-generation family. Ishizaka Koji, who also featured in the original Inugami Family, leads the all-star cast as the famous detective Kindaichi Kosuke.

When tycoon Inugami Sahei (Nakadai Tatsuya) passes away, he unexpectedly leaves the family fortune to outsider Tamayo (Matsushima Nanako, Ring) on the condition that she marry one of the Inugami grandsons - Sukekiyo (Onoe Kikunosuke, 47 Ronin), Suketake (Katsurayama Shingo), or Suketomo (Ikeuchi Mansaku) - pitting blood against blood. Soon afterwards, members of the family begin to turn up dead, one by one. Detective Kindaichi Kosuke (Ishizaka Koji) is called in to investigate the murders, and the truth is slowly revealed as he happens upon years of hidden skeletons and a shocking family secret.

It's a race against time and terror as the fate of the nation falls on the shoulders of two in the big-budget action thriller Midnight Eagle from director Narushima Izuru (Fly, Daddy, Fly). Based on a novel by Takashima Tetsuo, Midnight Eagle breaks down a nuclear crisis from media coverage to political backroom to soldiers on the frontline, culminating in a tense bullet showdown between the SDF and terrorists against a sweeping snow-covered mountainscape. Osawa Takao (Crying Out Love in the Center of the World) stars as the film's troubled hero, a war photographer with a troubled past, alongside Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile, Kids) and Takeuchi Yuko (Be With You).

While camping in the mountains, photographer Nishizaki Yuji (Osawa Takao) snaps a picture of what he thinks is a shooting star. It turns out, however, that what he actually captured was Midnight Eagle, an American stealth bomber carrying a nuclear warhead, as it crashed into the Northern Alps of Japan. Yuji's reporter sister-in-law Keiko (Takeuchi Yuko) and journalist buddy Ochiai Shinichiro (Tamaki Hiroshi) are both investigating the case, and Yuji's photograph becomes the key evidence that a government cover-up is in the air. The dangerous race is on as Japan's Self-Defense Forces led by Major Saeki Akihiko (Yoshida Asaku, Aegis) rush to get to the nuclear payload, while terrorist agents wait in ambush. Determined to report the truth, Shinichiro convinces Yuji to head for the mountains together, walking right into the line of fire.

Following the critical and commercial success of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars, Hosoda Mamoru has been named one of the brightest hopes for the future of Japanese animation. Three years after Summer Wars, Hosoda raises the bar again with Wolf Children. An original story co-created by Hosoda and frequent screenwriter Okudera Satoko, Wolf Children is a unique blend of fantasy romance and domestic drama, following the journey of a woman who falls in love with a wolfman and ends up raising two human-wolf hybrid children on her own. In a risky move, Hosoda eschews the adventure element of his two previous films, telling a gentle story about learning to let go and the sacrifices of parenthood. However, Hosoda's risk paid off, and Wolf Children became the highest-grossing film of Hosoda's career and one of the highest-grossing domestic films of 2012.

Hana (voiced by Miyazaki Aoi) is an ordinary university student. One day, she experiences love at first sight with a young man (voiced by Osawa Takao) who periodically sneaks into her class. The two soon fall in love, and Hana discovers that he is actually a wolfman. However, Hana accepts the wolfman for who he is, and the two eventually have two children: Yuki and Ame. Due to their wolf-like qualities, Hana decides to keep her children at home to avoid attention from others. When the wolfman suddenly passes away, Hana is forced to care for the children on her own. Realizing the difficulties of raising two half-wolf children in the city, Hana moves to the countryside and discovers the peaceful haven her family desperately needs.

Winner of the Best Actor and Best Director Prizes at the 2005 Blue Dragon Awards and the Best Actress Award at the 43rd Daejong Awards.

Is there such a thing as pure love? That's a question that strikes at the very big heart of You Are My Sunshine, a moving, slightly offbeat romance written and directed by Park Jin Pyo. Hwang Jung Min (Heaven's Soldiers and This Charming Girl) stars as Suk Jung, a thirtysomething farmer who finds love where he least expects it. Starring opposite Hwang is Jeon Do Yeon (Untold Scandal and No Blood No Tears) who plays Eun Ha, a sexy waitress at the local coffee shop. It seems that Eun Ha has fled Seoul for the countryside in the hopes of getting away from an abusive spouse. When she finally meets Suk Jung, a romance blooms between the two, as the aging, na ve bachelor begins giving Eun Ha the love and affection she so desperately needs and deserves. His generosity gives this once lost woman a sense of hope and a reason to keep living. Unfortunately, Eun Ha harbors a secret that may threaten their possible romantic future - she is infected with HIV.

Taking the number one box office slot in its first week of release, Park Jin Pyo's glorious tale of tragic love is an enthralling experience, due in no small part to the powerful, funny, and poignant performances from its two leads. Discover the power of true love in You Are My Sunshine!

If dogs are man's best friends, then, according to Im Soo Jung's (A Tale of Two Sisters) latest melodrama Lump Sugar, horses are woman's best friends. The career of director Lee Hwan Kyung (not to be confused with the writer of Yeon Gaesomun and Emperor Wang Gun) certainly defies expectations. After working as assistant for acclaimed directors like Lee Myung Se and Park Jong Won in films like Rainbow Trout, Lee opted for the less economically rewarding but safer road of TV producer at MBC. A couple of years later, he was back in cinema, directing the romcom He Was Cool with Song Seung Hun and Jung Da Bin. Lee Hwan Kyung now presents his second film, Lump Sugar, which earned both success at the box office and good reviews, especially for Im Soo Jung's (and the horse!) performance.

Growing up alongside her horse CheondungI, motherless Si Eun (Im Soo Jung) builds an increasingly strong bond with the animal. They don't need words to communicate, just gestures, eye contact, and trust in each other both on and off the racing field. One day the horse is sold, and Si Eun's life seems to stop in its tracks. Two years later, Si Eun is striving for her dream of becoming a successful jockey when she meets an old friend on the field.

Korean romantic comedies were never quite like this! From writer/director Son Jae Gon comes My Scary Girl, a.k.a. My Sweet, Yet Brutal Sweetheart, a darkly comic send-up of the typical Korean romantic comedy that proves to be anything but formulaic! Park Yong Woo (from Ditto and Blood Rain) takes on the lead role of Dae Woo, an educated, cheerful thirty-year-old who has gone his entire life without asking a woman out on a date. However, fate soon intervenes when a beautiful art school graduate with alluringly expressive eyes (Choi Gang Hee, from 1998's Whispering Corridors) moves into Dae Woo's apartment complex and takes residence in the room just below his. Thanks to some increasingly proactive encouragement from one of his faithful friends, Dae Woo actually musters up the courage to ask her out to dinner, and - surprise, surprise - the two hit things off!

It isn't long before the young lovers fall head over heels in love! But as the relationship takes off, Dae Woo begins to suspect that his new girlfriend may be hiding a dark secret. But what? His bewilderment at the situation quickly develops into concern, if not outright shock! Also known by the international title My Scary Girl, this 2006 film takes the typical romantic setup found in most films of its ilk, and turns the whole genre on its head! Instead of settling for the expected schmaltz and melodrama, My Sweet, Yet Brutal Sweetheart delivers the unexpected, resulting in a delirious, tremendously refreshing trip to the movies!

Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, director of the hilarious The Iron Ladies series, again plays with gay themes to offer an amusing film titled Metrosexual. A box-office topper in Bangkok, the movie can be enjoyed by gay and straight people alike. The story starts with young woman Pang announcing her marriage to Kong, a man who seems too good to be true - well-attired, stylish, skilled in cooking, knowledgeable about delicate cuisine, sensitive towards people's emotion. All these qualities seem to have disappeared from straight guys nowadays. Pang's four best friends therefore suspect that Pang's fiance is a closeted gay who is getting married just to disguise himself. In their meetings, resembling those of the four women in Sex and the City, the four cosmopolitan Thai women come up with all kinds of imaginative and even weird methods to test whether Kong is gay or just Metrosexual. The film may not be politically correct, but it certainly provides great entertainment with non-stop jokes!

Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Golden Globe Best Picture Babel spans three continents and four languages to present an emotionally compelling account of intertwined lives and heartbreaking miscommunication. The cast includes such great stars as Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, who portray an American couple stuck in a Moroccan village. The alienation between husband and wife in the beginning and the mistrust among members of the Moroccan tour are ironically posing greater difficulties in communications than the language barrier. At the same time, two Morrocan brothers and the couple's Mexican nanny never expect to pay a huge price for just some apparently frivolous mistakes. On the other side of the world, a Japanese girl, deaf and mute, choose to communicate with others in ways that many people find too eccentric to accept. After the well-made 21 Grams, Inarritu now offers another thought-provoking piece that will satisfy movie-lovers looking for an inspiring title.

Following the success of Train Man, director Murakami Shosuke (sometimes credited as Murakami Masanori) teams up with actress Nakatani Miki once more for a perfectly romantic holiday outing. Adapted from a Yoshida Shuichi novel, 24/7 Dori no Christmas (a.k.a. Christmas on July 24th Avenue) is everything you can expect from a Christmas romance - crowd-pleasing, heartwarming, full of familiar faces and holiday jingles. Nakatani Miki, who received the Japan Academy Awards Best Actress trophy in 2007 for Memories of Matsuko, takes her whimsical acting to a lighter film opposite Osawa Takao (Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World). The leads are supported by an all-star line-up of actors including Sato Ryuta (Limit of Love Umizaru), YOU (Nobody Knows), Abe Tsuyoshi (Rough), and Ueno Juri (Summertime Machine Blues). Fluffy but enjoyable, 24/7 Dori No Christmas makes an ideal romantic pick for Christmas or any other time of the year.

He'll sweep her off her feet and bring her to the most perfect place - July 24th Avenue in Lisbon, Portuqal. As Christmas nears, she can't help feeling a bit lonely as everyone else pairs up. When she runs into her high school crush Satoshi (Osawa Takao), who has just returned from Tokyo, Sayuri decides that this time, she can't let love pass her by. Can she create her own miracle on 24th Avenue?

₱ 396.00
Am I the Last Life In The Universe? The answer seems no to Kenji (Asano Tadanobu). He at least has Noi (Sinitta Boonyasak) with him - just for a while. Death connects as well as disconnects the characters - it is a motif that keeps haunting the movie from start to finish. Kenji, a Japanese Liberian living in Bangkok, is addicted to suicidal attempts. A series of killing brings him to a mysterious Thai prostitute named Noi. She is almost his antithesis in terms of character and personality, but the only intersection of their lives - the deep sorrow and solitude they are in - is enough to tie their fates together to spin an extraordinary tale... Even without a common language to communicate, they are destined to share some incredible but melancholic experiences in their lives.

Thai filmmaker Pen-ek Ratanaruang is emerging as a world class director recently. This time he has Christopher Doyle (2046, In the Mood for Love) as his cinematographer and Japanese superstar Asano Tadanobu (Ichi the Killer, Zatoichi) to feature in his Last Life In The Universe. This film has been sweeping awards ceremonies and selected for numerous film festivals. Apart from the twelve awards obtained locally in Thailand, the film was also an official Oscar Submission (Foreign Language Film) in 2004 and Asano Tadanobu was awarded Best Actor in the Upstream Category in the 2003 Venice Film Festival.

Independent filmmaker Vincent Chui made his first feature film Leaving in Sorrow a few years ago, starring Shawn Yue who was not as famous back then, and in 2004 he finished another film Fear of Intimacy. The film appears to be a genre film yet its portrayal of a loving relationship encompasses a depth of feelings that is seldom found in mainstream movies. Though an independent production, its cast is never a weak one with award-winning Tony Leung Ka Fai, Michelle Saram from Skyline Cruisers, Taiwanese model-actress Stephenie Lim, and handsome new actor Cheung Wing Hong.

Fai (Tony Leung), once a successful photojournalist, now makes a living as a paparazzi to take pictures of celebrities and expose their scandals. A new photographer (Michelle Saram), admiring him, works with him in following a rich lady. The target's mysterious death draws them into investigation, in which Fai's memory of his girlfriend who vanished in the thin air 5 years ago keeps haunting him... The film was launched at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in early 2004 but its commercial release did not take place until 2005. Now the film is also available on DVD and VCD for those who have missed the theatrical release in Hong Kong. Also selected as a competition entry for the 26th Moscow International Film Festival and as the Closing Film for the 6th Taipei Film Festival.

A seamless blend of real live actors and computer generated special effects are on display in Akiyama Takahiro's Hinokio, a story about one lonely boy and his desire to reach out and connect with humanity, albeit with a futuristic twist!

Fearful and unable to leave his house since his mother's untimely death, a heartbroken, emotionally devastated twelve year old named Satoru (Kanata Hongo) withdraws himself from all contact with the outside world. However, this situation changes slightly when a technological marvel is built for him, a state-of-the-art robot nicknamed Hinokio! With the help of his robot doppelganger, Satoru is able to take the first tentative steps to reconnecting with the world around him, sending Hinokio to grade school in his stead.

During this daring experiment, Satoru is able to befriend a tomboy named Jun (Tabe Mikano) with the help of his robotic stand-in. But even if he connects with Jun, is he still not alone, isolated in his bedroom? Soon enough, this relationship impels Satoru to attempt to experience the world in a more direct manner, but not by coming out of the house. Instead, he activates the robot's "sensations," a decision that puts young Takashi in mortal jeopardy.

Back home, there is also the strained relationship between father and son for Takashi to deal with. Satoru's dad Kaoru (Masatoshi Nakamura) tries his best to reach out to his son, but Satoru still blames him for his mother's death. Thus, communication between the two is sparse at best. Yet through the vehicle of Hinokio, the two may finally have a chance at reconciliation. Will Satoru trade all his newfound virtual relationships for real ones or will he remain petrified with fear? Featuring appearances by Kobayashi Ryoko and Horikita Maki, Hinokio is a poignant film that asks the hard questions about what it really means to be alive.

Not all fairy tales are meant to be sweet bedtime stories. In truth, some can be quite scary, even terrifying by today's standards. Such is the case with Red Shoes, a chilling horror film from director Kim Yong Gyun that stars noted actress Kim Hye Su (Tazza: The High Rollers). Inspired by the creepy Hans Christian Andersen story of the same name, Red Shoes tells the story of Sun Jae (Kim Hye Su), a thirtysomething eye doctor and dutiful wife who ends up finding a pair of abandoned shoes in the subway. She quickly takes the shoes as her own, but in the process, eventually discovers that these seemingly harmless items may possess a frightening power all their own.

Before long, Sun Jae's marriage disintegrates when she discovers that her husband is carrying on an affair. Consequently, she is forced to strike out on her own and live a squalid existence with her six-year-old daughter, Tae Soo. While Sun Jae tries to adjust to her new life, her red shoes begin causing all sorts of problems for her. Sun Jae's knight in shining armor seems to come in the form of In Cheol (Kim Sung Soo), a good-looking interior designer who quickly develops feelings for the film's heroine. Together will they be able to uncover the secret behind the enigmatic red shoes or will they somehow succumb to its terrifying power?

"There are no boundaries in love...Age is nothing but a number."

Broadcast in 2002, top-rated Korean drama Romance To Be With You (a.k.a. Romance) launched Kim Jae Won (My Love Patzzi) and Kim Ha Neul (My Tutor Friend and Piano) into instant stardom. Despite the taboo nature of the teacher-student love affair, the drama won over audiences with the tender, light-hearted portrayal of a pure and sweet love in a complicated world.

Choi Kwan Woo (Kim Jae Won), a noble, but undisciplined young man, meets Kim Chae Won (Kim Ha Neul), a charming, free-spirited young woman, under amusing, serendipitous circumstances. The two quickly hit it off amid innocent lies about their age and occupation. However, when Kwan Woo transfers to a new high school, the truth comes out - Kwan Woo is only a high school student and Chae Won is a teacher, his teacher. The two attempt to be just teacher and student, but they cannot help but continue to love and care for each other, even if they have to give up everything. Faced with social pressure and the strong opposition of both Kwan Woo's and Chae Won's parents, will their love be able to overcome all?
