Apple iPhone SE 2020 Review

The iPhone SE 2020 offers some additional features and upgrades, making it a fitting successor to the iPhone SE. Here are our first impressions of the device in terms of specs.

Apple hasn't implemented new design changes to the latest iPhone SE. As such, it looks similar to its predecessors; particularly, the iPhone 8. If you have one, you can use any old iPhone 8 case with the iPhone SE. Besides being backwards compatible with all iPhone 8 cases, the iPhone SE is equipped with the same 4.7-inch Retina IPS LCD display like the previous iteration. In addition, it doesn’t sport a notch and doesn’t have the notorious notch as found on recent iPhone models.

Like the iPhone SE in 2016, the latest iPhone SE sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 750x1334px resolution. It comes equipped with the same TrueTone technology as found on the latest models. This allows the device to adapt to various lighting conditions, making the display’s white balance cooler or warmer. The iPhone SE also utilizes Haptic Touch System that is also present on the iPhone 11 range. This allows users to open a separate menu and trigger a buzz after performing a long press, replicating the feel of a physical press.

The iPhone SE also replicates some camera specs on the iPhone 8 including the 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture that helps capture photos in low light. Although it’s only equipped with one sensor, Apple is boasting this as an impressive camera phone since it is better than the iPhone XR’s sensor. As for the front-facing camera, it can now take portrait mode selfies without having to utilize another sensor to create depth and find the subject.

The Apple iPhone SE is packed with Apple A13 Bionic with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 650 GPU. As such, you can expect that the device will perform pretty fast in many ways including faster switching between apps, editing video editing, and taking photos.

Battery Life

The latest Apple iPhone SE also received a slight upgrade in the battery department, as it now sports a bigger 1821mAh battery capacity compared to the 1624mAh on the previous iteration, making it the same as that of the Apple iPhone 8. Also, it’s now equipped with a fast Qi wireless charging which boasts a 50% battery charge level in 30 minutes.

While the Apple iPhone SE is basically a rehash of the iPhone 8, it comes equipped with a faster processor and some other minor upgrades that still make it a good-quality, cheaper iPhone as that of the iPhone SE in 2016. If you’re not a big fan of the iPhone 8’s design, it’s best to look for other options in the same price segment.
