HTC U12 Plus Philippines: Prices, Specs, and News

HTC U12 Plus: Everything You Need to Know About HTC’s Upcoming Flagship

In the last couple of years, HTC has released great flagship devices like the HTC 10 and the HTC U11. With the release of the HTC U12 Plus, the Taiwanese company is hoping to dominate the flagship market. Here’s what we can expect from HTC’s next flagship device.

Release Date and Price

The HTC U12+ is said to be released in May, alongside two other phones – the Desire 12 and the Desire 12 Plus. Price-wise, the 64-GB variant will be priced around $700 (around PHP 36,305) while the 128 GB version is expected to cost $810 (around PHP 42,000).

The latest in the rumor mill suggests that HTC will not put out the HTC U12 and launch just the U12 Plus. This is done for branding reasons and to prevent the HTC U12 from being recognized as an inferior flagship compared to the iPhone X and the Galaxy S9. Naming it “HTC U12 Plus” will also justify the device’s high price tag. Although this rumor should be taken with a grain salt, tech news site Droidlife found out that there’s a recently deleted entry on Verizon’s Open Development site, listing the phone as the HTC U12.

While there isn’t a lot of information about HTC U12 Plus’ camera, there are a few leaked images, discovered by Mobielkopen and Let’s Go Mobile, that provide some clues.

The HTC U12+ is said to feature dual cameras, with the primary lens having a 12 MP resolution and a f/1.8 aperture. The front shooter is said to have the same specs, except for having the capability to create portrait mode photos that have become increasingly popular in smartphones these days.

Buyers have two choices to make when purchasing the U12 Plus – 64 GB or 128 GB of built-in storage. Both storage variants will run on 6 GB of RAM and the latest Snapdragon 845 chip. In the battery department, various rumors claim that it could either have a 3,420-mAh or 3,500-mAh capacity; the latter is revealed by Verizon’s Open Development site.

The site also discovered that the U12 Plus will sport a 6-inch screen with LED panel, contradicting earlier rumors that suggested the phone would come with an OLED display. This backs up earlier renders of the U12+ from seasoned leaker Evan Blass that showed a big display, dual cameras on both the front and the back of the device, and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

Aside from that, the U12 Plus will come with an IP68 water resistance to keep up with the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X. As to whether the “squeeze-to-activate” feature will be retained on the U12+ remains to be seen. This function was incorporated in the HTC U11 which was well-received enough.
