Monster Hunter Generations: The ultimate monster-hunting game
If you are a fan of action RPGs (Role-Playing Games), you might want to consider Nintendo’s Monster Hunter Generations. It was first released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2015 and had an expanded version, called Monster Hunter XX, which was announced in 2016 and was launched on the Nintendo Switch. An HD port of this game, titled Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, will soon be released worldwide in August 2018.
Monster Hunter Generations features a gameplay similar to previous titles in the series. Here’s everything you need to know about this impressive ARPG from Nintendo.
Begin an exciting adventure with no intrinsic attributes
You will take the role of a hunter who sets forth on quests to hunt formidable creatures. Your abilities will be determined by the type of armor you wear and the weapon you wield on a quest. This is because you won’t have innate attributes that affect your gameplay, unlike in most RPGs. But you can customize your character’s appearance by tweaking its clothing, features (war paint, tattoos, etc.), hairstyle, and eye color.
Weapons and armors
If you’ve played Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, all its weapons are included in Monster Hunter Generations, such as bows, guns, swords, lances, and hammers. Each weapon has its own set of abilities and moves which you can employ while venturing into the field. When it comes to armors, they provide defensive bonuses not only to physical damage but also elemental effects. Plus, they boost certain skills and attacks.
Prowlers are cat-like creatures that offer aid in hunting. Before you can recruit these critters to help you on your quests, they start as Palicos that lend a paw in gathering, cooking, and much more. They have a set of advantages over human hunters when it comes to gathering, including not having to use gathering tools like bug nets and pickaxes, not having a stamina gauge, and having immunity to the effects of extreme climates. Be sure to train your Palicos since you will unlock their abilities once they level up.
Apart from questing and gathering, one of the most interesting aspects of this game is hunting massive monsters. Not only are they ginormous, but also stronger and faster than you are. These monsters are quite aggressive that they will throw themselves and hurl their powerful attacks at you. To take down these monsters, be sure to prepare accordingly and bring some essential items like potions, brace for a counter attack, keep the monster moving until it doubles over from exhaustion, and break its vital parts like hitting its spine.
Aside from four new monsters, Monster Hunter Generations include a number of formidable creatures in the previous instalments. These include the Deviant Monsters - mutated and powerful creatures - which drop decent loots that can be used for crafting advanced-level equipment.
