Recently, Samsung has officially announced its next device which is going to be another version of the Galaxy S8. The tech behemoth called it the Galaxy S8 Active which is tougher and has a more traditional design.
Based on the many leaks circulating on the web, the S8 Active discards the curved sides as seen on the Galaxy S8. It is going to have a flatter exterior this time and have more bezels around it but the screen is the same as the S8, sporting a Super AMOLED display at 5.8 inches. On top of that, the S8 Active is going to sport a thicker frame with metal edges and a polycarbonate back. This makes it slightly bulkier than the Galaxy S8 but Samsung designed it that way to keep up with military-grade durability standards. Not to mention, it’s water-resistant and the display can withstand drops from up to 5 feet.
In terms of hardware, the S8 Active runs on the latest Snapdragon 835 and 4 GB of RAM, similar to that of the regular model. Its 64-GB internal storage can further be expanded up to 256 GB. Aside from that, the S8 Active houses a capacious 4,000-mAh battery which is bigger than the 3,000-mAh battery in S8.
Other noteworthy features that buyers should be excited about are the top-notch cameras (12MP primary camera and 8 MP rear camera), fingerprint scanner, and a physical button dedicated for Bixby – Samsung’s voice assistant. All these features and specs mentioned on the leaks mean that the Galaxy S8 Active is a powerful handset. However, like most flagship phones, it is going to be expensive. Also, it’s a simplified version of the regular S8 since it lacks the curved design. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a flagship smartphone with a traditional look, then the S8 Active may be worth looking at.
As for the release date, Samsung has not confirmed when the S8 Active will come to Southeast Asian markets but its expected price should be around 3,500 RM (43,283 PHP, 6,640 HKD, 1,144 SGD).
