Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: A Top-Notch Flagship Packed with Powerful Dual-Lens Camera
Recently, Samsung revealed its newest flagship smartphones, namely the Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus, at the MWC 2018. Not only is the Galaxy S9’s core version leading the pack, but also its Plus variant that comes with a top-of-the-line dual-lens camera and other nifty features. Here’s a rundown of its specifications and features.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Price and Release Date
The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus’ official release date in the Philippines is March 16, while the pre-orders start from February 27 to March 6. The device will retail for P45990 for the 64 GB variant, while it is P55990 for the 128 GB version. There’s even a 256 GB version that will be released on March 23 and will cost P60,990. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus comes in three colors: black, coral blue, and lilac purple.
Elegant Glass and Metal Design
The Galaxy S9 Plus is not only one of the biggest smartphones you can buy today but it is also one of the most visually appealing handsets, sporting a stunning combination of a glass panel and a metal frame. It almost looks similar to last year’s iteration, the S8 Plus, with the fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the device. However, this time, the S9 Plus’ fingerprint sensor is now situated below the camera and is aligned in the center. Another subtle change on the Galaxy S9 Plus’ exterior is the trimmed-down bezels at the top and bottom of the display, which reduced the device’s overall height, making it a tad bit shorter than the S8 Plus.
Super AMOLED Screen with Quad HD+ Resolution
The Galaxy S9 Plus retains the Infinity Display that is found in the S8, wielding an 18:5:9 aspect ratio and a Quad HD+ resolution. This futuristic display offers vibrant visuals and a well-balanced contrast ratio that make it stand out. It fills 90% of the Galaxy S9 Plus’ front panel, with bezels which appear very narrow.
Samsung integrated a f/1.5 aperture into the Galaxy S9 Plus’ rear sensor, which is a first in the smartphone industry. This f/1.5 aperture is actually one of the configurations for the Galaxy S9 Plus’ Dual Aperture Technology, which brings in 28% more light with 30% less noise for dim settings. The technology then switches to the f/2.4 aperture to limit the amount of light, making sure that the images don’t become overexposed.
3500 mAh Battery Capacity and Exynos 9810 Chip
The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus comes with the same battery capacity as the S8 Plus, housing a 3500 mAh capacity which can last a day with moderate usage. When it comes to the processor and RAM, the Galaxy S9 Plus has an Exynos 9810 chip under its hood and a 6 GB of RAM, both of which should provide a faster processor speed and smoother performance. The entry-level variant for the Galaxy S9 Plus is packed with a 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 200 GB, although there 128 GB and 256 GB internal storage versions.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Could Come with a Whopping 512 GB Internal Storage
Samsung is tipped to launch a Galaxy S9 Plus variant that comes with a 6 GB of RAM and a whopping 512 GB storage capacity. This is according to a Weibo leaker named Martian, believing that Samsung will release a high storage capacity variant of the Galaxy S9+, together with the usual 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB models – all of which are rumored to have a 6 GB of RAM.
However, the Samsung Galaxy S9 core version is said to come with a 4 GB of RAM, similar to its previous iteration, the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S9 is also expected to have the same storage variants to the S8 – 64 GB and 128 GB, based on the slew of rumors currently floating around.
When it comes to the type of display and size, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will both launch with an Infinity Display with a 5.8- and 6.2-inch screen size, respectively. Design-wise, both flagship phones will sport a back panel made of glass, while the fingerprint sensor will be placed below the primary camera. This is to ensure that users won’t experience issues while accessing the scanner.
Aside from that, the S9 Plus may come with a dual camera setup. This is according to some rumors which revealed that the Galaxy S9 Plus will have two 12 MP sensors on the back. That will gain the S9 Plus the upper hand on the S9 core version in terms of camera performance. The Galaxy S9 Plus’ main camera is also expected to have the ability to switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures, the former is designed for low light or close-up shots, while the latter is intended for zoomed-out shots.
As for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus’ innards, both devices will run on the Exynos 9810 chip with a battery capacity of 3000 and 3500 mAh, respectively. Although there are no improvements in the battery capacity, the new flagship phones may provide a better battery life due to a more efficient chip and processor, as well as a much-improved software.
Another rumor that has been doing the rounds is that the Galaxy S9 phones will be equipped with an Intelligent Scan (IS) technology. It works the same way as the Apple Face ID found in the iPhone X. This user authentication system can unlock the device in poor lighting conditions using iris scanning and facial recognition through its camera sensors.
Lastly, the Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus is set to launch this weekend on Sunday, 25 February in Barcelona, Spain. Both flagship phones may ship in the second week of March, with a projected price point of PHP 50000 for the Galaxy S9 core version and PHP 56000 for the Plus variant.
