Xiaomi Mi A1 in the Philippines – Conquering the Budget Sector of Smartphones

What comes to your mind when you think of budget or mid-range devices? It is undoubtedly Xiaomi. As for their design and efficiency of use, their phones have offered 90 percent of the iPhone experience. Speaking of simple interface and build, one of Xiaomi’s latest devices – the Xiaomi MI A1 is not only a sleek device but also has powerful specifications and features which are rarely found in a budget smartphone. Here’s a rundown of its specifications and features.

Sophisticated design

The Xiaomi Mi A1’s design is reminiscent of the OnePlus 5’s and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4’s. Its corners are more rounded which look more polished than the Redmi Note 4, while on the back, it looks a lot like the OnePlus 5. Looks aside, this is a very functional device in terms of ergonomics. The Xiaomi MI A1 is slender at 7.3mm, ranking it amongst the slimmest around, at the same time it is also lightweight at 165 grams. Although it isn’t the lightest phone on the planet, it’s a very well balanced one as it doesn't feel like something that’s feather-light nor is it too heavy. The weight is also distributed nicely so it feels great even if you're using it one-handed. In terms of display, it is a 5.5-incher with a big chin below the screen and a quite large top bezel. This means it’s bigger than other similar devices such as the Moto G5S Plus.

Top-of-the-line Software

Software-wise, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is a clean Android device with no software modifications of any kind, except for its camera app that supports the dual cameras on the phone. Overall, this phone will be a joy to use as it is simple and has an uncluttered interface. The Android interface offered is the purest with hardly any customisation.

Decent Hardware

The Xiaomi Mi A1’s hardware is similar to that on the Redmi Note 4. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor which has been built on a 14nm manufacturing process, 4GB RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, dual SIM support, and a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD screen with Corning’s Gorilla Glass. With that, it offers a satisfactory performance that is ideal for day to day usage. For this reason, the Mi A1 remains as one of the best performing smartphones in the segment.

Satisfactory Camera Performance

In daylight, the Xiaomi Mi A1 takes rich images with good levels of detail and colour saturation; thanks to its dual 12-MP camera system and 8-MP front camera which are placed next to each other. The first camera offers a wide-angle lens, while the second camera offers 2x optical zoom. Snap up photos under good lighting to achieve high-quality pictures. On the other hand, steady hands are needed for blur-free shots with the use of the optical zoom lens as there is no OIS on it. Its front camera is only 5-MP but is able to capture clear selfies even in indoor situations. Overall, it is one of the best midrange camera phones that Xiaomi has manufactured.
