Last year, ZTE Max Pro impressed everyone with its features and price. The same goes for this year with the Max XL. It follows the formula of the ZTE Max Pro with slight improvements and keeps the shoestring price. The Max XL is just 1/8 the price of the Samsung Galaxy S8 but you already get a fingerprint sensor, a capacious 3,990 mAh battery, and a pre-installed Android Nougat operating system. Although there’s no waterproof technology and NFC, the Max XL is already a decent mid-range phone for those who want to do just the basics.

As for the display, it has a 6-inch full HD screen with 1920x1080 pixel resolution, making typing and browsing a pleasure. Unlike its predecessors that sport an AMOLED display, the Max XL comes with a built-in adaptive display feature that turns on the screen to show you notifications. Although this feature may take up some battery, the display looks much better.

Design-wise, the front façade of the handset comes with a 5 MP front snapper and capacitive touch buttons below the display. The home button also functions as a notification light that casts a nice white glow. Also, the back of the Max XL hosts a 13 MP camera with LED flash, a fingerprint sensor, and a speaker.

Other features of the Max XL include a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-C charging port with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. This technology allows the battery to be charged quickly. The handset also boasts a split-screen multitasking feature, made possible by the Android Nougat. This will allow users to watch a video while chatting with their friends on Facebook Messenger.

The ZTE Max XL is not yet available in South East Asian markets. It is estimated to be around 561 RM in Malaysia, 180 SGD in Singapore, 1000 HKD in Hong Kong, and 6453 PHP in the Philippines.
