What is Fundador light?

Fundador Light is the best-selling Fundador in the Philippines. What makes it a great brandy is its clean, balanced aroma and smooth light taste. This is the result of the double distillation of the brandy and keeping it in cellars by the traditional solera system.

Is Fundador light brandy?

Fundador Light is a brandy made from Brandy of Jerez. Speaking of which, it is a brandy that is kept in cellars by the traditional solera system in the Jerez area of Andalusia, Spain (particularly within the "Sherry Triangle", the municipal boundaries of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Jerez de la Frontera, and El Puerto de Santa María in the province of Cádiz). Fundador Light is obtained from wines specifically selected to achieve eaus-de-vie which is a clear, colorless fruit brandy that is produced by means of fermentation and double distillation. How to drink brandy?

What is the best way to drink brandy?

Brandies such as those from Fundador can be enjoyed in many different ways. One of the favorites among brandy lovers is the classic sidecar - a refreshing blend of brandy, lemon/lime, and triple sec.

If you have a cheap bottle of brandy, mix it with something. In some countries like the Philippines, brandy is used instead of whiskey in many drinks. In the USA, particularly in Wisconsin, Old Fashions and Manhattans are routinely made with brandy.

The classic way to enjoy a well-aged brandy such as Fundador is in a brandy snifter at room temperature. You hold the bowl of the snifter in the palm of your hand to gently warm the brandy and release all the aromas. Fundador brandy is typically served in this fashion as an after-dinner drink.

As for the general age rating system for brandies, here is a good guide for cost and taste for selecting the right one.

  • AC - 2 year minimum in a barrel
  • VS (“Very Special”) – aged at least 3 years in a barrel
  • VSOP – “Very Superior Old Pale” – 5 year minimum in a barrel
  • XO – Extra Old”, Napoleon or Vieille Reserve – aged at least 6 years in a barrel
  • Vintage – It comes with a vintage date when bottled and is aged in the barrel for a long time like wine.
  • Hors D’age – A very old brandy, aged well for a long period of time.

Fundador brandy can be enjoyed neat, in a cocktail, as a fine after-dinner drink. So, be sure to read the label and drink accordingly.

How much alcohol is in a Fundador?

While it is distilled and extracted from fruits blackberry, apple, and apricot, Fundador brandy carries an alcohol content of about 40%. As for other categories of brandy including American Brandy, Cognac, Armagnac, and Fruit Brandy, their taste and alcohol content depends on the fruit, geographic locations, and distillation process.
