Garmin Philippines - Technology that touches people
In January 1990, two electrical engineers Gary Burrell and Dr. Min Kao formed Garmin Corporation in Taiwan. The firm's name was derived from the first names of the founders. The firm introduced its first product, the GPS 100AVD, in January 1991 targeting boaters and pilots of small planes. The device was sold for about $1,000.
Subsequently, another GPS unit for pilots called the GPS 95 was introduced and sold for $1,795. It incorporated a display of the plane's position on a moving map, as well as nearby airports and radio beacons. It also featured data storage for the aircraft's built-in instrumentation with groundspeed, heading, and altitude readings.
In 1995, Garmin’s sales reached $102 million with a producing net income of $23 million. This was made possible because of Garmin’s innovative gadgets that provided user-friendly GPS devices that were once very difficult to comprehend. Garmin focused on its simple mission to turn complicated technology into useful products that manage to enhance people's lives and the brand today is the leading brand for commercial navigation.
