Principles of Microelectromechanical Systems
₱ 8,229.00
Kobo

The building blocks of Mems design through closed-form solutions Microelectromechanical Systems, or Mems, is the technology of very small systems; it is found in everything from inkjet printers and cars to cell phones, digital cameras, and medical equipment. This book describes the principles of Mems via a unified approach and closed-form solutions to micromechanical problems, which have been recently developed by the author and go beyond what is available in other texts. The closed-form solutions allow the reader to easily understand the linear and nonlinear behaviors of Mems and their design applications. Beginning with an overview of Mems, the opening chapter also presents dimensional analysis that provides basic dimensionless parameters existing in large- and small-scale worlds. The book then explains microfabrication, which presents knowledge on the common fabrication process to design realistic Mems. From there, coverage includes: Statics/force and moment acting on mechanical structures in static equilibrium Static behaviors of structures consisting of mechanical elements Dynamic responses of the mechanical structures by the solving of linear as well as nonlinear governing equations Fluid flow in Mems and the evaluation of damping force acting on the moving structures Basic equations of electromagnetics that govern the electrical behavior of Mems Combining the Mems building blocks to form actuators and sensors for a specific purpose All chapters from first to last use a unified approach in which equations in previous chapters are used in the derivations of closed-form solutions in later chapters. This helps readers to easily understand the problems to be solved and the derived solutions. In addition, theoretical models for the elements and systems in the later chapters are provided, and solutions for the static and dynamic responses are obtained in closed-forms. This book is designed for senior or graduate students in electrical and mechanical en

Asthma: The Biography
₱ 950.00 ₱ 997.00
Kobo

Asthma is a familiar and growing disease today, but its story goes back to the ancient world, as we know from accounts in ancient texts from China, India, Greece and Rome. It was treated with acupuncture and Ayurveda. As Western medicine developed, the nature of asthma became clearer, and its basis in the lungs recognized. But cultural perceptions of the disease shifted too. By the 18th century, with recognition that the disease was centred on the lungs, the idea of environmental triggers such as dust and smoke first became recognized. And with that, asthma also became identified as a disease of artisans. Things changed again in the 19th century, as medical understanding grew with the advent of the stethoscope and new techniques such as percussion of the chest. New treatments included the promotion of mountain spas, for asthma now rose in social status, and became associated with the upper classes and the literati. For Marcel Proust and Charles Dickens, asthma shaped their lives and their creativity. From early in the 20th century, the idea of asthma as an allergic disease became established, and the search for environmental causes was on. Hay fever was closely linked, and pharmaceutical companies began to make antihistamines, anti-inflammatories and bronchodilators. Asthma sufferers were warned to beware of pets, simplify their furnishings, and take holidays by the sea far from pollens. But a newly emerging concept was that attacks could be triggered by stress and psychological factors. With musicians such as Schoenberg and Berg as celebrity sufferers, the idea of asthma as an élite disease persisted. In recent years, attitudes have changed again, as incidences of asthma grew dramatically across the world, especially among the young. The disease has now become closely linked to modern lifestyles and the many products of civilization. The battle against house-dust mites began, and whole new lines of anti-allergenic products and foods were launched - asthma has prove

Principles of Aeroelasticity
₱ 2,051.00
Kobo

Principle of Aeroelasticity constitutes an attempt to bring order to a group of problems which have coalesced into a distinct and mature subdivision of flight-vehicle engineering. The authors have formulated a unifying philosophy of the field based on the equations of forced motion of the elastic flight vehicle. A distinction is made between static and dynamic phenomena, and beyond this the primary classification is by the number of independent space variables required to define the physical system. Following an introductory chapter on the field of aeroelasticity and its literature, the book continues in two major parts. Chapters 2 through 5 give general methods of constructing static and dynamic equations and deal specifically with the laws of mechanics for heated elastic solids, forms of aerodynamic operators, and structural operators. Chapters 6 through 10 survey the state of aeroelastic theory. The chapters proceed from simplified cases which have only a small, finite number of degrees of freedom, to one-dimensional systems (line structures), and finally to two-dimensional systems (plate- and shell-like structures). Chapter 9 combines some of the previous results by treating the unrestrained elastic vehicle in flight. All these chapters assume linear systems with properties independent of time, but Chapter 10 takes up the subject of systems which must be represented by nonlinear equations or by equations with time-varying coefficients.

The "Book of Common Prayer": A Biography (Lives of Great Religious Books)
₱ 2,087.00
Galleon

While many of us are familiar with such famous words as, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here. . ." or "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust," we may not know that they originated with The Book of Common Prayer , which first appeared in 1549. Like the words of the King James Bible and Shakespeare, the language of this prayer book has saturated English culture and letters. Here Alan Jacobs tells its story. Jacobs shows how The Book of Common Prayer --from its beginnings as a means of social and political control in the England of Henry VIII to its worldwide presence today--became a venerable work whose cadences express the heart of religious life for many. The book's chief maker, Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, created it as the authoritative manual of Christian worship throughout England. But as Jacobs recounts, the book has had a variable and dramatic career in the complicated history of English church politics, and has been the focus of celebrations, protests, and even jail terms. As time passed, new forms of the book were made to suit the many English-speaking nations: first in Scotland, then in the new United States, and eventually wherever the British Empire extended its arm. Over time, Cranmer's book was adapted for different preferences and purposes. Jacobs vividly demonstrates how one book became many--and how it has shaped the devotional lives of men and women across the globe.

Principles of Stable Isotope Distribution
₱ 8,423.00
Galleon

This book presents a quantitative treatment of the theory and natural variations of light stable isotopes. It discusses isotope distribution in the context of fractionation processes, thermodynamics, mass conservation, exchange kinetics, and diffusion theory, and includes more than 100 original equations. The theoretical principles are illustrated with natural examples that emphasize oxygen and hydrogen isotope variations in natural waters, terrestrial and extraterrestrial rocks, and hydrothermal systems. New data on meteoric precipitation, rivers, springs, formation fluids, and hydrothermal systems are included in relation to various natural phenomena. Essentially, this book seeks to reconnect the diverse phenomenological observations of isotope distribution to the quantitative theories of physical chemistry and the language of differential equations. It may serve as a textbook for advanced students, as a research reference, or as a quick source of information. The book is organized into five chapters, each followed by suggested quantitative problems and a short reference list. The three theoretical chapters progress from an elementary review of the physical chemistry of stable isotopes, to the thermodynamics of isotopic compounds, and finally to the calculation of isotope distribution in dynamic systems. The third and fifth chapters emphasize oxygen and hydrogen isotope variations in Earth's hydrosphere and lithosphere, constituting the most important examples of the theoretical principles. Appendices provide data on atomic weights of light elements, physical constants, mathematical relationships, and isotopic fractionation factors.

Principles and Practices of Oral Communication: Appraisal Theory and Its Application to Casual Conversation
₱ 2,744.00
Galleon

This is the only book based on the 'appraisal' theory (evaluative language) that has been applied in a casual conversation context. The appraisal theory has recently been formulated within the interpersonal meaning framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics. This book outlines the newly emerged theory and then applies it to the evaluative expressions that end in 'Y' (e.g. fussy, cranky, quirky, etc.). Sook Hee (Susan) Lee was born in South Korea and migrated to Australia in 1991. She spent 20 years learning English yet she came to realize that despite having a deep knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar, she didn't know real colloquial English. She observed that native English speakers love to use 'Y' ending expressions in everyday life situations, and came to suspect that there is a widespread deficiency in the way that English is taught. After completing a Master's course in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the University of Wollongong, and a PhD in TESOL at the University of Sydney, her suspicion was confirmed when she conducted a survey targeting adult ESL students. The results indicated that the vast majority of the international students surveyed barely knew the expressions that end in 'Y'. In this book you will learn one of the most innovative and yet simple approaches to teaching casual conversation as well as discovering exceptionally useful teaching materials. ESL/EFL learners will learn the 'secret' of real expressions that native English speakers use in everyday life situations. "This is a quirky, interesting, playful book...It expresses the exceptional talent that Dr Susan Lee has for introducing her passion for systemic functional linguistics into very practical, very amusing language learning activities for those learning English as a second or foreign language...Principles and Practices of Oral Communication shows how a powerful linguistic theory can be used to produce effective and enjoyable language learning experiences. This is an important book by a truly scholarly teacher who has drawn on her own experience as an English language learner to empower all who read this work." Len Unsworth Professor in English and Literacies Education, Australian Catholic University, Sydney, Australia "This book will be very useful for teachers and learners alike. The author has identified a very interesting area of language that will make users sound more natural and takes their vocabulary to places most coursebooks have previously ignored." Richard Pincus Head of teaching at the Embassy Language Centre, Sydney, Australia

The Complete Biography of Prophet Adam (Pbuh) & Eve (Hawa)
₱ 122.00
Kobo

Prophet Adam is believed to have been the first human being and prophet on Earth, in Islam. Adam's role as the father of the human race is looked upon by Muslims with reverence. Muslims also refer to his wife, Hawa or Eve, as the "mother of mankind". Muslims see Adam as the first Muslim, as the Qur'an states that all the Prophets preached the same faith of Islam (Submission To One God). The Qur'an and hadith give the same account of the creation of Adam and Eve. Synthesizing the Qur'an with Sunni hadith can produce the following account. According to the Qur'an, when God informed the angels that he was going to put a successor on Earth, they questioned whether the human would cause bloodshed and damage, but he told them that he knew what they did not. He created Adam from clay and breathed life into him. Hadith add that he was named Adam after the clay he was made out of, or the skin (adim) of the earth. Returning to the Qur'an, when Allah SWT (God) asked all the angels to prostrate before Adam, they all obeyed, except Iblis (Lucifer) from Jinn race (demon). He said, "I am made from fire, when Adam is from clay. I am better than him. I am not going to prostrate before him." Sunni hadith say that while Adam was sleeping, God took a rib from him and from it he created Eve; however, while the creation of Adam and Eve is referred to in the Qur'an, the exact method of creation is not specified. The Qur'an then says that God commanded that Adam and Eve not eat from one tree in the garden of Eden, but Iblis was able to convince them to taste it. They then began to cover themselves because they now knew that they were naked. For this, God banished Adam and Eve to earth; non-canonical Sunni hadith say that fruits were turned to thorns and pregnancy became dangerous. Non-canonical Sunni hadith also say that Adam and Eve were cast down far apart, so that they had to search for each other and eventually met each other at Mount Arafat. In Islamic theology, it is not believed

Atatürk: An Intellectual Biography
₱ 2,247.00
Galleon

When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk became the first president of Turkey in 1923, he set about transforming his country into a secular republic where nationalism sanctified by science--and by the personality cult Atatürk created around himself--would reign supreme as the new religion. This book provides the first in-depth look at the intellectual life of the Turkish Republic's founder. In doing so, it frames him within the historical context of the turbulent age in which he lived, and explores the uneasy transition from the late Ottoman imperial order to the modern Turkish state through his life and ideas. Shedding light on one of the most complex and enigmatic statesmen of the modern era, M. Sükrü Hanioglu takes readers from Atatürk's youth as a Muslim boy in the volatile ethnic cauldron of Macedonia, to his education in nonreligious and military schools, to his embrace of Turkish nationalism and the modernizing Young Turks movement. Who was this figure who sought glory as an ambitious young officer in World War I, defied the victorious Allies intent on partitioning the Turkish heartland, and defeated the last sultan? Hanioglu charts Atatürk's intellectual and ideological development at every stage of his life, demonstrating how he was profoundly influenced by the new ideas that were circulating in the sprawling Ottoman realm. He shows how Atatürk drew on a unique mix of scientism, materialism, social Darwinism, positivism, and other theories to fashion a grand utopian framework on which to build his new nation.

The Principles of Psychology, Vol.1

The Principles of Psychology is a two-volume introduction to the study of the human mind. Based on his classroom lessons and first published in 1890, James has gathered together what he feels to be the most interesting and most accessible information for the beginning student. Psychology, according to James, deals with thoughts and feelings as its facts and does not attempt to determine where such things come from. This would be the realm of metaphysics, and he is careful to avoid crossing over from science into philosophy. This first volume contains discussions of the brain, methods for analyzing behavior, thought, consciousness, attention, association, time, and memory. Anyone wanting a thorough introduction to psychology will find this work useful and engaging. American psychologist and philosopher WILLIAM JAMES (1842-1910), brother of novelist Henry James, was a groundbreaking researcher at Harvard University and one of the most popular thinkers of the 19th century. Among his many works are Human Immortality (1898) and The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature (1902).

The Philosophy and Mechanical Principles of Osteopathy' is one of the landmark works in the field of Osteopathy, written by its founder, Andrew Taylor Still. Still was an American surgeon and physician who turned his attention to developing a system of treatment less invasive than the conventional treatments of his day. He investigated many 19th century practices and was inspired by their relatively tame side-effects. He believed that manipulation of the muscular skeletal system was the key to alleviating many illnesses, and developed his techniques into what he called Osteopathy (Greek roots osteon- for bone and -pathos for suffering). He promoted his system widely and founded the American School of Osteopathy, the world's first osteopathic school, in Missouri. We are republishing this work with a brand new introductory biography of the author.

Tradigital Animate CC: 12 Principles of Animation in Adobe Animate
₱ 4,277.00
Galleon

Learn how to bridge the gap between the traditional animation principles and digital software. Tradigital Flash: 12 Principles of Animation in Adobe Flash brings the essentials of traditional animation and Adobe Flash together. The early masters of animationcreated a list of 12 principles which are important for anyone who wants to create interesting and believable animation. Digital animation continues to make incredible technological advancements that give animators the capability to produce visually stunning work. New technology, however, also has a tendency to create an environment where animators are so focused on adapting to the new workflow that they tend to dismiss these fundamental animation principles… which often leads to poor and lifeless character animation. Tradigital Flash helps you focus on these principles while using the program’s wide array of features to create believable animation, consistently. Tradigital Flash joins three other Tradigital books covering Maya, Blender, and 3ds Max. This new volume in the series approaches the topic in a different way, giving readers both a practical look at the software, and providing a theoretical understanding of the genre. Learn a new principle in each chapter, the Flash tools most related to it and how to put it all together. A plethora of examples demonstrate the good methods which animators should use in Flash, how to avoid the bad ones and ways to create a workflow that works for you. An easy-to-follow approach with examples throughout the book that build on each other, showing how the principles act together. A companion website http://rubberonion.com/tradigital-animate/ features more examples, downloadable FLA resource files, video tutorials.

However, weas his followerswere saved from our sufferings and were guided by him, so he is unmistakably the founder of this teaching. We do not think its impolite to his departed soul to refer to him in this way. Also, with our love and respect for him, we his followers dont know how else to refer to him other than as the founder of this teaching. Jerusalem The Biography Of The Controversial Capital
₱ 208.00
Kobo

Jerusalem is the universal city, the capital of two peoples, the shrine of three faiths; it is the prize of empires, the site of Judgement Day and the battlefield of today's clash of civilizations. From King David to Barack Obama, from the birth of Judaism, Christianity and Islam to the Israel-Palestine conflict, this is the epic history of 5,000 years of faith, slaughter, fanaticism and coexistence. How did this small, remote town become the Holy City, the 'centre of the world' and now the key to peace in the Middle East? In a gripping narrative, Louis Asare reveals this ever-changing city in its many incarnations, bringing every epoch and character blazingly to life. Jerusalem's biography is told through the wars, love affairs and revelations of the men and women - kings, empresses, prophets, poets, saints, conquerors and whores - who created, destroyed, chronicled and believed in Jerusalem. During its long history, Jerusalem has been attacked 52 times, captured and recaptured 44 times, besieged 23 times, and destroyed twice. The oldest part of the city was settled in the 4th millennium Bce, making Jerusalem one of the oldest cities in the world. Given the city's central position in both Israeli nationalism and Palestinian nationalism, the selectivity required to summarize more than 5,000 years of inhabited history is often influenced by ideological bias or background. These and many more you will find when you read through this book.

Musical Biography
₱ 2,903.00 ₱ 3,224.00
Kobo

Musical biography has rarely been an object of theoretical and methodological reflection. Our present-day perception of the lives of prominent composers and performers of the past has been largely formed by cultural and political assumptions of nineteenth-century biographers and their twentieth-century followers. While older biographies are being scrutinized for veracity and 'updated' with new evidence, their historiographical premisses and narrative techniques remain largely unchallenged. The epistemological upheavals in the humanities since the 1960s have generated a body of theoretical thought that has undermined many of the assumptions of traditional biography. Consequently, many of these assumptions have lost their hold as viable underpinnings for present-day scholarly biography. For example, the accumulation of facts is no longer believed to bring us closer to an understanding of the subject; nor are the traditional views of the unified self and the self as a foundational idea taken for granted. This volume brings together musicologists and historians who explore, through individual case studies, the rich potential of these new theories for writing musical lives. The authors of this volume examine how the insights provided by these theories illuminate our critical reassessment of older biographies - and the interpretations of musical works these biographies were used to construe - and help forge new approaches to musical biography. The authors also explore the functions musical biographies served in different historical contexts, the relevance of biography for musical criticism, the reliability of archival evidence, the ethics of biography, the demands placed on biography by feminist and gender history, and the new possibilities offered by cinema. The contributors to this volume challenge the view that biography has little importance for music history, analysis, and criticism. Collectively, they reassert biography's centrality and relevance, and dem

Retracing the life of Buck Owens-from his poverty-stricken youth as the son of a sharecropper to one of the nation's best-loved and wealthiest entertainers-this biography pays tribute to the man and his music by revealing his genius, his warmth, his humor, his vulnerabilities, and his flaws. It is based on personal sources, including original and latter-day Buckaroos, the cohost and the producer of Hee Haw, the former president of Capitol Nashville, and numerous country singers, relatives, ex-wives, ex-lovers, and ex-employees. The result is a 360-degree profile of a shrewd businessman-the polar opposite of the aw-shucks image he cultivated on Hee Haw. Owens was the top-selling country act of the 1960s-with 21 number-one hits and 35 consecutive top-10 hits from 1962 to 1972, a total surpassed only by the Beatles. One of his major contributions to this era was his invention of the Bakersfield sound, mixing electric guitars with a rock 'n' roll beat, which became popular with country and rock fans alike. This biography details the rift Buck had with the Nashville establishment, his reasons for never becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry, the number of times Buck married, the truth about Buck posing in the nude for Playgirl, and his strained but professional relationship with Hee Haw cohost Roy Clark.

A comparison of leasing according to the treatment of different accounting principles and diverse treatment in loacal GAAP s of major industrial countries
₱ 423.00
Kobo

Wissenschaftlicher Aufsatz aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Jura - Zivilrecht / Handelsrecht, Gesellschaftsrecht, Kartellrecht, Wirtschaftsrecht, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Leasing is more and more understood as a modern form of financing of various assets, both in the commercial and the private sector. Leases have now become an integral part of economic life. With their multiple creative possibilities and variations, leases are an equitable alternative to buying and renting for companies. The diversity of different forms of leasing, and the fact that there is no uniform lease contract as a reference, results in lease accounting being one of the most difficult areas of accounting under almost all jurisdictions. [1] This diversity leads to an accounting system for leasing business with different possibilities to allocate positions in the P & L and balance sheet. Due to the lack of specific rules, leasing accounting is mostly based on general accounting principles. [2] In Germany, relevant tax decrees have impact on the local accounting. Leases are, in principle, not fixed on legal contract types, and this allows temporary grant of use and utilization of liquidity-friendly financing alternatives in the balance-sheet. Since most major accounting systems presuppose exclusion of pending transactions from the balance sheet, [3] companies used contracts for grant of use, such as lease, deliberately to influence the accounting. For example, sale and leaseback transactions are used to reduce the balance-sheet debt, though the physical property mapping has not changed. [4] The current lease accounting under Ifrs 17 of the Iasb is to be understood as a reaction to the existing situation in the various accounting systems. The aim of the standard setter was to capture the major part of the grant of use in the balance sheet. All postings, which change the asset allocation similar to an investment, should also be accounted as such. [5] The concept of economic ownership divides

Fluid Dynamics of Packed Columns: Principles of the Fluid Dynamic Design of Columns for Gas/Liquid and Liquid/Liquid Systems (VDI-Buch)
₱ 14,038.00
Galleon

The?rstGermanedition of thebook“Fluiddynamicsofpackedcolumns with modern random and structured packings for gas/liquid systems” was published in 1991. It sold out within a few years. Added to this were numerous enquiries, in particular within the industry, prompting me to publish a second, extended edition. A packed column remains the core element of any diffusional separation process. This underlines the need for basic design principles for packed columns, which enhance the design process by making it more accurate and reliable. The SBD (suspended bed of droplets) model introduced in the ?rst German edition of the book was well received by the experts and is now used by a large number of com- nies in the industry, as it offers improved reliability in the ?uid dynamic design of packed columns. For the purpose of facilitating the design process, the SBD model was in- grated into the simulation programme ChemCAD. The software programme FDPAK, which is available for Windows, has certainly contributed to the widespread use of the SBD model. The programme is very user-friendly and the calculation results are p- sented in tabular as well as graphic form, showing ?ood load, pressure drop and hold-up diagrams in the entire operating range.

It wasn't long before he had the biggest clubs in Europe knocking on his door, but it was Manchester United who won the race for his signature. Under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo developed into the complete footballer and athlete, winning three league titles and a Champions League along the way. He then became the biggest galáctico of them all when he transferred to Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee. However, he has endured a difficult relationship with managers, teammates and the fans - and his time at the club has often been overshadowed by his fierce rivalry with Barcelona and Lionel Messi. Guillem Balagué, respected football journalist and expert on the Spanish game, provides the definitive account of what has made Ronaldo the player and man that he is today.

THE MATHEMATICAL PRINCIPLES OF NATURAL PHILOSOPHY (Illustrated and Bundled with LIFE OF SIR ISAAC NEWTON)
₱ 117.00
Kobo

The book has an active table of contents for readers to access each chapter, Proposition, Problem, Law, Lemma, and Scholium of the following two books in an easy way: 1) THE Mathematical Principles OF Natural Philosophy 2) Life OF SIR Isaac Newton The key contribution of Newton to the modern science and engineering was the book THE Mathematical Principles OF Natural Philosophy. THE Mathematical Principles OF Natural Philosophy is also called Principia. Book I of the Principia details the foundations of the science of mechanics. Book II inaugurates the theory of fluids. Book III shows the law of gravitation at work in the universe. Newton also discovered measurable, mathematical patterns in the phenomenon of color through his book Opticks. He published it in 1704 and Opticks established Newton as a pioneer of the interweaving of pure theory with quantitative experimentation. In mathematics too, Newton made contributions to all branches of mathematics then studied and his solutions to the contemporary problems in analytical geometry of drawing tangents to curves (differentiation) and defining areas bounded by curves (integration). He discovered general methods of resolving problems of curvature, embraced in his "method of fluxions" and "inverse method of fluxions", respectively equivalent to Leibniz's later differential and integral calculus. Newton's contribution to Enlightenment was also profound. His conception of the Universe based upon Natural and rationally understandable laws became one of the seeds for Enlightenment ideology. John Locke and François-Marie Arouet applied concepts of Natural Law to political systems advocating intrinsic rights; Adam Smith applied Natural conceptions of psychology and self-interest to economic systems. According to the very popular story, Newton figured out that the same force governed the motion of the Moon and the apple when he was on seeing an apple fall in his orchard in 1666. The story inspired millions of young minds aroun

A Primer of the Principles and Values of The Young Korean Academy

This book is about both a person and an organization. The person, Ahn Chang Ho, a Korean visionary, moralist, and patriot, was born in 1878, a tumultuous time in Asia. Japan, a rising military and industrial power, began to challenge the centuries-old Chinese dominance. It was their ambition to take control of Korea, then seize China itself, to become Asia's supreme power. This was not going to happen without resistance. The two powers go war over Korea from 1894 to1895, the first Sino-Japanese War. China, already a declining power, loses, allowing Japan to eventually colonize Korea in 1910. Hence, from 1910-1945, Koreans did not have their own country. The occupation lasted until Japan was defeated World War II. This thirty-five year period is, to Koreans, their era of infamy. They suffered through humiliation, being robbed of their culture, identity, and impoverishment at the hands of foreign rulers. It was a time of crisis and national tragedy. History shows that extraordinary situations produce extraordinary leaders. Dosan Ahn Chang Ho is the most extraordinary leader Korea has ever produced. Dosan argued that actual cause of Koreans losing their country, was their faulty character. He challanged that Koreans lacked patriotism; public officials were corrupt. The people had to fend themselves. They would lie and cheat, if that is what it took to survive. There was no trust. Korea had becomean untrusting and loveless society, in need of a massive overhaul. Culture and history had molded Korea's character and personality. Dosan asserted that unless Koreans change and reform their inner self, they would never regain their country. He was not a person of talk and no action. He founded Young Korean Academy (Yka), as an organizational arm of his character reform movement, in 1913, in San Francisco. Dosan Ahn Chang Ho is an extraordinary leader Korea has ever produced. Dosan argued that what really got the Koreans to lose their country was their faulty character. To begin w
