Intercontinental Video The Mad Monk (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)

Shaw Brothers auteur Li Han Hsiang helms the period comedy The Mad Monk. Departing from the luscious aesthetics and sensually charged stories he is most well known for, Li offers an earnest and entertaining take on the episodic adventures of Ji Gong, an eccentric vagabond monk who spurned Buddhist rules of asceticism but was considered a "living buddha" because of his benevolence. Portrayed numerous times on both the small and big screen, Ji Gong was perhaps most notably embodied by Stephen Chow in his 1993 film The Mad Monk, although a same-titled offering came much earlier in 1977. Li's The Mad Monk consists of four stories that see the roaming monk save a mother and daughter from the brink of death and a young man from the hands of unscrupulous debtors. Ji Gong also deals mischievous justice on robbers and corrupt officials. The titular mad monk is played with flair by renowned 70s actor Yeh Feng, who also sings the film's theme song. Co-starring Siu Yam Yam and Yu Rong, The Mad Monk was followed up in 1978 with the sequel The Mad Monk Strikes Again.

In 2011, director Johnnie To and writer Wai Ka Fai's Don't Go Breaking My Heart presented female audiences everywhere with an impossible question: Louis Koo or Daniel Wu? Three years later, the filmmaking team expands the complex love triangle with a few new twists in Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2, the long-awaited sequel to the hit romantic comedy. In addition to the original cast Gao Yuanyuan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2 adds Miriam Yeung (Aberdeen) and Vic Chou (Saving General Yang) to the fun as two new players in this increasingly chaotic game of love. One year after the events of Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Shen Ran (Louis Koo) has returned to his womanizing ways, despite being recently engaged to finance genius Yang Yang (Miriam Yeung). Zi Xin (Gao Yuanyuan) recently returned to Hong Kong and is preparing for her wedding to Qi Hong (Daniel Wu), who is away in Suzhou completing a construction project. After meeting Yang Yang by chance, Zi Xin scores a job in her trading firm located right across the street from Shen Ran's new office. Meanwhile, Zi Xin's brother Paul (Vic Zhou) meets Yang Yang at a different time and falls for her right away, adding further complications into this messy web of relationships. This edition includes making of and trailers.

From the studio that brought us Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away comes the classic anime, Grave of the Fireflies. Set in post-war Japan, only a few weeks before the American occupation, director Isao Takahata's powerful anti-war masterpiece centers on the lives of two brave siblings, a fourteen year old boy named Seita and his four year old sister, Setsuko. With their father away serving in the imperial navy and their mother tragically killed in an air raid, the two children are forced to stay with their aunt, a cruel woman who proves to be a poor caregiver for the two children. After quarreling with their aunt, the two siblings leave the city and venture out on their own, eventually taking up residence in a cave-turned-abandoned bomb shelter. With no adults to turn to, the youngsters must depend solely on each other to survive. But it isn't long before their resources are exhausted, and Seita is forced into stealing so he can feed the starving Setsuko. And sadly, it seems his little sister is getting weaker by the moment. These dark times are illuminated only by the light of the fireflies. Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka, this Studio Ghibli-produced film has been universally hailed as a classic since its 1988 release. The emotionally charged motion picture highlights the suffering endured by the innocent victims of war, a stunning portrayal that has resonated with audiences worldwide. Ultimately, Grave of the Fireflies is an unforgettable film, sure to bring even the most jaded audience to tears with its poignant tale of the horrors of war, and the children left behind in its wake.

One of the most expensive movies ever to be filmed in China, Dragon Blade was released to much fanfare during the 2015 Lunar New Year period and quickly roared to the top of the box office no small feat in the always crowded Lunar New Year movie landscape. Boasting an international cast that includes Jackie Chan, John Cusack, Adrien Brody and Super Junior's Choi Si Won, Dragon Blade is an action-packed adventure that depicts a fictional meeting between a noble Chinese commander and two Romans on opposite sides of an empire-defining conflict. As the commander of the Silk Road Protection Squad, which is tasked with keeping the peace in the tribally diverse northwestern border of Han Dynasty China, the dutiful and dedicated Huo An (Jackie Chan) is frequently forced to toe a precarious line to maintain order. In the end, he too succumbs to the unruly politics of the region, as he's falsely accused of smuggling and exiled to Wild Geese Gate. There, he meets Roman general Lucius (John Cusack), who is trying to help Publius, heir of the Consul, escape the clutches of his power-hungry older brother, Tiberius (Adrien Brody). Huo An and Lucius soon become allies and friends, and as Tiberius draws closer with his army of 100,000 soldiers, they must find a way to fight back, even if they are severely outgunned. This is the 2D version of the film.

Writer-director Duane Adler, best known for his work on the Step Up series, has done it again with the romantic dance movie Make Your Move featuring one of Asia's hottest idols BoA and Derek Hough, five-time winner of the American television dance competition Dancing with the Stars. The romance between cross-cultural dancers who fall in love after battling it out in a nightclub is spiced up by perfectly choreographed tap, hip-hop and tango routines, not to mention BoA's star appeal. More of a love story linked by dance rather than the dance face-off usually seen from the genre, Make Your Move is a charming, romantic and visually appealing experience that shows the heat and art of dancing. Fresh out of prison, tap dancer Donny (Derek Hough) travels to New York where he meets Korean dancer Aya (BoA) at his brother Nick's (Wesley Jonathan) new nightclub. Though Ava and Donny are mutually attracted to each other, their romance is stopped short by Nick and Aya's brother Kaz (Will Yun Lee) who owns a rival nightclub business. Broker Michael, who has his eye on Aya, complicates things even further. Aya and Donny decide to solve all their problems once and for all on the dance floor.

Studio Ghibli and Grave of the Fireflies director Takahata Isao create a magical, but sobering tale about preservation with 1994's Pom Poko. The fantasy film takes us into the world of the Tanukis (Japanese raccoon dogs), who are about to take on the human world to ensure their own survival in a rapidly developing Japan. Takahata blends elements of traditional Japanese folklore and a strong message advocating for environmental protection into a wonderfully strange tale about a courageous group of animals fighting to protect their home. At the time of its release, Pom Poko won the Best Animated Film Award at the Mainichi Film Concours and represented Japan at the Academy Awards Best Foreign Film race that year. In the 1960's, the lives of the Tanukis living in the hills of Western Tokyo are threatened when urban development moves into their area. Since then, natural resources (including land) have become so scarce that groups of Tanukis are now fighting each other for their habitat. Before the fight goes further, matriarch Oroku urges them to stop fighting and use the effort to put a stop the human world's development. Soon, the Tanukis unite in their fight against the humans. When their first several plans didn't work, Oroku comes with a risky plan so crazy that it might work after all.

Set five years after the events of Sadako 3D, Sadako 3D2 offers a new tale of terror involving Sadako, the vengeful ghost that comes with a cursed video. Once again, Hanabusa uses the 3D effects to his advantage, immersing the audience into the world of the film and forcing them to confront the terror face-to-face. Five years have passed since the events of Sadako 3D. Akane (Ishihara Satomi) is pregnant with a child with her boyfriend Takenori (Seti Koji). However, Akane dies after giving birth to her daughter. When Takenori's sister Fuko (Takimoto Miori) takes up the task of caring for Akane's daughter, the infamous cursed video resurfaces. During her investigation, Fuko learns about the legend of Sadako's daughter... This version includes the 2D and 3D versions of the film. While the majority of Studio Ghibli's films are directed by Miyazaki Hayao and Takahata Isao, there have been exceptions over the years, including the 2002 feature The Cat Returns. Directed by Morita Hiroyuki who was previously a key animator on My Neighbors the Yamadas, The Cat Returns is a follow-up to late director Kondo Yoshifume's 1995 Ghibli feature Whisper of the Heart. In Whisper of the Heart, the young protagonist and aspiring writer toiled over a fantasy story about a schoolgirl and a dapper feline named Baron. Seven years later, her story turned into the brightly animated and wistfully told coming-of-age fantasy The Cat Returns. Though The Cat Returns is not at the same level as Miyazaki and Takahata's works, even a minor Studio Ghibli release is heads and shoulders above the competition. Shy high school student Haru has long had the uncanny ability to communicate with cats. One day, she rescues a strange cat from oncoming traffic. But the cat turns out to be no ordinary feline. He is actually Prince of the Cat Kingdom and to repay Haru's kindness, he offers to take her hand in marriage! To clear up the mix-up, Haru travels to the Cat Kingdom with the help of Baron. But once she steps into the land of the cats, she discovers that she herself is gradually turning into a cat!

Multi-talented Hong Kong entertainment veteran Lawrence Cheng (He & She) returns to the director's chair after two decades in 2014's Break Up 100. Interested in examining contemporary romantic relationships, Cheng took on directing, producing and scripting duties for the film, which stars first-time collaborators Ekin Cheng (Horseplay) and Chrissie Chau (Mr. & Mrs. Player). Sam (Ekin Cheng) and Barbara (Chrissie Chau) couldn't be more different. Sam is a man-child in his 40s who has yet to achieve anything of significance in life. Barbara is a proud and serious go-getter whose maturity belies her age. It's no wonder, then, that the couple has broken up 99 times during their eight-year relationship. The curious thing is, Sam and Barbara have made up and continued their relationship after each and every one of their breakups. The couple opens a caf together and the business becomes unexpectedly successful after Sam comes up with the idea of allowing their customers to store their break-up memorabilia in the caf , attracting a group of eccentric patrons including bakery owner Priscilla (Ivana Wong, Golden Chickensss). However, the couple's 100th breakup looms on the horizon as the pressures of success threaten to pull them apart, and this time, the breakup could very well be permanent.

Lau Ka Wing directs 1981's The Treasure Hunters, a fast-paced and hilarious kung fu comedy featuring an all-star cast of Shaw Brothers regulars! Returning to the silver screen after recovering from a serious injury, martial arts superstar Alexander Fu Sheng takes on the role of Chi Ta Po, a sly conman who crosses paths with Chow Su Chee (Chang Chan Pang, Fu Sheng's real life brother), a bored rich kid who wants a chance to make something of himself on his own. The two hit it off, and Su Chee suggests that they team up to find the mythical lost god of Chan Po Chu. Ta Po readily agrees, and the two treasure hunters embark on a thrilling adventure in search of riches beyond their wildest dreams! But things aren't all fun and games when the newfound friends catch the attention of Wu Sun (the great Gordon Lau [aka Liu Chia Hui]), a Shaolin monk who serves as the apparent guardian of the secret treasure. All those who've sought out the treasure have lost in battle to him and rather ominously, later turn up dead! Little does Wu Sun know that the evil nobleman Lord Mo (Johnny Wong Lung Wai) and his vicious sister (Yang Tsing Tsing) are the real culprits, eliminating the treasure seekers one-by-one! Will the two conmen and the Shaolin monk be able to put their differences aside and team up to defeat these nefarious villains? Find out in The Treasure Hunters, a fun-filled Shaw Brothers production featuring pulse-pounding action sequences and some of the most hilarious comedy you'll ever witness in a martial arts film!

Intercontinental Video Three Sinners
₱ 720.00
YesAsia
The Water Margin (a.k.a. Outlaws of the Marsh) is widely considered to be one of the four great masterworks in all of Chinese literature. Credited to authors Shi Nai An and Luo Guan Zhong, this literary classic centers on the adventures of one hundred and eight larger-than-life characters living in 12th century China. So well-beloved is this legendary work that it has inspired a slew of adaptations, including plays, television shows, comic books, and even video games! Considering the book's obvious appeal, it's no surprise that the famous Shaw Brothers studio would adapt the novel for the silver screen. In fact, various episodes of the novel were re-imagined for the cinema in no less than seventeen pictures, including such films as The Water Margin, All Men are Brothers, Tiger Killer, and The Amorous Lotus Pan, to name but a few! Perhaps one of the most intriguing Shaw Brothers adaptations, however, was one of the earliest, Three Sinners, a 1962 film helmed by Yan Jun, director of The Grand Substitution and The Iron Buddha. Based on one particular storyline in the larger work, Three Sinners weaves an intriguing story of romance, treachery, and death, all within the context of the traditional Huangmei Opera. Yan Jun casts his real-life wife, the elegant Li Li Hua, star of such Shaw Brothers films as The Goddess of Mercy and Vermillion Door, as one of the title characters, a woman who finds herself in the middle of a stormy love triangle involving her controlling husband (director Yan Jun serving double duty in a starring role) and a passionate lover (Chen Yan Yan). Fans of The Water Margin won't want to miss out on this classic musical interpretation!
