While escaping into the Zu Mountains, Ming Chi meets up with master swordsman Ting Yin (Adam Cheng), and somehow gets dragged on a dangerous quest to seek out the legendary Twin Swords. The swords may be the only weapons capable of stopping an all-consuming ancient evil, that until now has only been held in check by the venerable Long Brows (Sammo Hung). Their journey brings them many challenges and allies, including bumbling monks Hsiao Yu and Yi Chen (Damian Lau and Mang Hoi), and the Countess (Brigitte Lin), the powerful mistress of the Jade Pool Fairy Fortress. Jackie Chan is Asian Hawk, an Indiana Jones-style grave robber who's called into service to discover the secret behind the "Armour of God," a suit of mystical armor reputedly worn by an ancient deity. Asian Hawk takes the job, but must also contend with a former friend (popular singer Alan Tam) who hitches a ride to find his wayward girlfriend Rosamund Kwan - who just so happens to be the ex-girlfriend of Asian Hawk. Armour of God features stunning international locations and some imaginative action set pieces that could only have come from the mind of Jackie Chan. Some of the standout action sequences include an extended fight with four monstrous women, an acrobatic tussle in monastery, and a notoriously dangerous stunt that landed Jackie Chan in the hospital. You can actually see that failed stunt DURING the ending outtakes, which serves as a compelling reminder of Chan's humanity, and unswerving proof of his daredevil genius and unmatched commitment to his art. Armour of God is undoubtedly one of Jackie Chan's signature cinema vehicles.

Patrick Tam, director of the award-winning After This Our Exile, first made his name for creating artistically acclaimed movies with his daring 1982 work Nomad (starring Leslie Cheung, Cecilia Ip, Pat Ha, Ken Tong). Action-comedy superstar Jackie Chan is in fine comic form in Dragon Lord an early eighties showcase for the budding star that was directed by Chan himself! Jackie Chan is Lung, a playful and mischievous youth who spends his days hanging around with his pal Chin (Mars), foolishly pursuing women, and engaging in sports instead of going to school like he should be doing. But Lung and Chin are drawn into a devious plot to smuggle Chinese treasures to foreign lands, leading to numerous chases, escapes, and finally a barn brawl that's choreographed in vintage Jackie Chan style! A young and delightfully spry Jackie Chan makes Dragon Lord an early gem in the superstar's legendary career. Some of Chan's most impressive stuntwork is featured here, along with the beginnings of his trademark action-comedy style. But there are martial arts too, and also the winning Jackie Chan comic charm, which was evident even during the early eighties. Dragon Lord isn't just an entertaining action-comedy, but also an essential film in Jackie Chan's already packed library of classics!

Before going international, John Woo stunned Hong Kong movie fans with his A Better Tomorrow in 1986, which opened an era of heroic bloodshed movies in Hong Kong cinema, weaving action, melodrama, and strong storylines together in a unique style. Following the success of A Better Tomorrow, Woo created The Killer, also featuring the famed Chow Yun Fat as a killer who is not at all cold-blooded.

The film also features veteran actors Danny Lee and Kenneth Tsang as cops, as well as renowned singer Sally Yeh. The chemistry between John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat continues to interweave the theme of brotherly love into an intriguing plot. The Killer illustrates the dilemma of upholding principles, sacrificing friends and betraying one's conscience. Woo delivers a combination of high impact action spliced in with dramatic slow motion shots, showing his unique cinematic style and flair. This stylish and action-packed film is just as acclaimed as A Better Tomorrow, winning the film Best Director and Best Film Editing at the 9th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Joy Sales Mob Sister aka: Ah Sou (DTS Version) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 550.00
Mob Sister (a.k.a. Ah Sou) features a star-studded cast!

The film pools together Best Actor winners such as Eric Tsang, Simon Yam, Anthony Wong, Alex Fong, Liu Ye, and Tse Kwan Ho, co-starring with character actors Yuen Wah (Kung Fu Hustle) and Liu Kai Chi. Gorgeous Karena Lam collaborates with new actress Annie Liu, selected from thousands of girls during casting, to portray two Mob Sisters who have to join the triads against their will.

Annie Liu's lack of experience was seemingly no obstacle in her performance as a naive girl brought up by gangsters. On the other hand, Karena Lam gives up her usual sweet-girl roles, such as the ones in Floating Landscape and It Had To Be You, and takes on a new challenge to play a female gangster in this off-beat and original female-centered Hong Kong triad movie.

Director Wong Ching Po, a past Best New Director winner at the Hong Kong Film Awards, subverts gangster movies' traditions not only by telling the story from a female point of view, but also by making it a visually arresting motion picture. He tries to make almost every frame in Mob Sister aesthetically complex. Karena Lam's white dresses and Annie Liu's red ones form an interesting and impressive contrast. For movie lovers who want to see a highly stylized gangster movie, Mob Sister is a visual treat.

Joy Sales A Side, B Side, Seaside (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 350.00
Chan Wing Chiu has been working in the Hong Kong film industry since the 1990s, and now he pools together a bunch of new actors to make a refreshing title A Side, B Side, Seaside. The film consists of "A Side" and "B Side", reminding us of the VCD format which splits a film into two discs. On "A Side", the VCD of Takeshi Kitano's A Scene At The Sea brings a 17-year-old girl Chan Tim to encounter her first love Ho Fu who works in a VCD shop. She then comes across him on an outlying Island of Hong Kong where she is enjoying an unforgettable summer holiday with her best friends. Radiating the vitality peculiar to 17-year-olds, the four girls seem tireless in trying anything that they have never done before: adult movies, puppy love, first kiss, and many other things.

The story on "B Side" also takes place on this small island. A young girl Ah Mei returns from the urban area to this unsophisticated community to visit two old friends. While recalling memories of their younger days, they also realize that their innocence back then has quietly faded away. "B Side" seems totally unrelated to "Side A" on surface, but Ah Mei's nostalgia of her youthful times may be foretelling what Chan Tim will have to go through one day. "A Side" and "B Side" both take place at seaside, where Chan Tim, Ah Mei, and their friends together sing a song of praise about youth.

Joy Sales A Chinese Tall Story (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 350.00
A loose adaptation of the classic novel "Journey to the West", A Chinese Tall Story updates the story of the Monkey King with a hot young cast, imaginative costume designs, and unbelievable visual effects. But the biggest change of all: the movie isn't really about the Monkey King! Instead it focuses on the Tang monk, Tripitaka (Nicholas Tse), who experiences his own adventure after his stalwart companions Piggy (Kenny Kwan, formerly of Boy'z), Sandy (Stephen Cheung of Boy'z), and Monkey King Sun Wukong (Wilson Chen) get taken hostage by an evil Tree Demon.

Tripitaka must fend for himself, and finds an unlikely companion in ugly lizard imp Meiyan (Charlene Choi), who instantly falls in love with the handsome, but chaste monk. Complicating matters are Tripitaka's own wavering faith, plus the appearance of white-garbed aliens (led by Fan Bing Bing), who may or may not be Tripitaka's allies. When Tripitaka decides that it's time to rescue his companions, will the aliens help him? And what of the newly-transformed Meiyan, who possesses powers unknown even to herself?

Director Jeff Lau is no stranger to the Monkey King legend, having directed 1995's A Chinese Odyssey starring Stephen Chow. The stirring score was provided by Joe Hisaishi, composer for the majority of Hayao Miyazaki's films, and the film also features appearances from EEG starlet Isabella Leong, and classic Chinese stars like Yuen Wah, Kara Hui (Wai Ying Hung), and Gordon Liu. Full of comedy, action, romance, and plenty of big-screen spectacle, A Chinese Tall Story is a worthy update of the Monkey King legend!

Joy Sales A Time To Love (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 550.00
The theme of impossible love is timeless. It is as touching in the Shakespearean era as in the 1980s. A boy and a girl grew up together and fell in love with each other in the early 80s. The strong hatred between their families was an obstacle to their love. Dating would bring disaster while separation would be torture. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet inspired them to persist in their love, but that love was still too fragile to resist pressure from their families. He was sent abroad seven years ago and she has waited for seven years for him to return. Can the love between them be everlasting?

A Time to Love, released near Valentine's Day, is touted as a modern-day Chinese version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Popular idols Vicky Zhao Wei and Lu Yi both take on new images in this artistic film. Award-winning director Huo Jianqi designs the most aesthetic scenes to convey the intense romance. This film is another masterpiece from Huo after Nuan which won the Tokyo Grand Prix at the 16th Tokyo International Film Festival.

Filled with spookiness and suspense, 49 Days offers something quite different from the rising Japanese and Korean thrillers. The film intrigues the viewers with cultural details unique to the Chinese folk tradition, such as burning rhinoceros horn as a way to see beyond the mortal world. Joy Sales Crime Story (Digitally Remastered) (Joy Sales Version) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 701.00
Fan-favorite Hong Kong cinema classic Crime Story now digitally remastered! It now comes with special features such as original and newly edited trailers (the latter in English), never-before released footages, and deleted scenes from the Hong Kong theatrical edition. Director Kirk Wong also talks about the story behind this film the interview included in this remastered edition.

Perpetually happy-go-lucky Jackie Chan gets serious in Crime Story, a riveting police action film directed by Kirk Wong (Organized Crime and Triad Bureau). Inspector Eddie Chan (Jackie Chan) is a brilliant, but emotionally troubled cop assigned to protect a real-estate mogul (Law Kar Ying) who's been threatened with kidnapping. Unfortunately, despite Eddie's best efforts, he's unable to prevent the abduction. His emotions nearing a breaking point, Eddie is paired with fellow cop Hung (Kent Cheng) to track the kidnappers to Taiwan, but circumstances seem to be working against them. The investigation gets impeded at every turn, and there may even be some cops working against Eddie...

Based on an actual kidnapping case, Crime Story represents Jackie Chan's most serious work to date. Here, Jackie Chan portrays a hard-boiled, serious cop who's excellent at his job, but cannot take the consequences of his work emotionally. The passion and heartbreak of Eddie Chan are as vital to Crime Story as any of the action sequences, though those happen too. Kirk Wong's experience with the crime genre brings an authentic edge to the film, but it's Jackie Chan's wrenching performance that turns heads. Crime Story earned Jackie Chan a Best Actor Award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, and proves to his fans and non-fans alike that there's more to Jackie Chan than just action.

From Andy Chin, the director of serious fares like Call Girl '92 and Love Among the Triad, comes the 1992 romantic comedy Changing Partner. Co-written by James Yuen (He's a Woman, She's a Man), the film stars The Wynners' Anthony Chan (who also produces) in a romantic coupling with actress Sandra Ng that is as funny as it is unlikely.

Chan and Ng play Yau and Sandra, two police officers facing problems in their respective love lives - Yau's girlfriend (Carrie Ng) has left him because of his lack of ambition, while Sandra's boyfriend has left with her money in tow. When a serial killer appears to be targeting newlyweds in a seaside neighborhood, Yau and Sandra are forced to hold a stakeout posing as newlyweds in the same house. Produced by Jackie Chan, The Shootout is an early-nineties action comedy that brings together many stars of past and present Hong Kong films. Popstar Aaron Kwok is Fai, a relatively young, inexperienced cop who accidentally nabs a member of a thievery gang. However, Fai loses his collar when the gang's vicious boss (Elvis Tsui) infiltrates Police HQ to take down his own comrade! Luckily, the cops bring in two "expert" policemen, Lau (Sean Lau Ching Wan) and Ma (Leung Ka Yan) to help nab the bad guys. Helping their investigation is Min (Fennie Yuen), the club singer to whom Fai is attracted AND the girlfriend to the head bad guy. With topnotch police work - and maybe a little luck - the cops regroup in time for a violent finish. Gritty violence and entertaining, over-the-top action highlight The Shootout, but it's the charismatic stars and quick-footed comedy which keep things amusing.

Kent Cheng, best known abroad as the portly Porky Wing in the Once Upon a Time in China series, directs and stars as the titular Mr. Smart in this situation comedy feature from 1989. Following the success of his critical favorite Why Me? (1985), Kent directed himself in a slew of amiable character set pieces. Character is certainly the name of this film's game; in addition to Kent's ever-radiant Once Upon a Time in China costar Rosamund Kwan, Mr. Smart showcases an array of Hong Kong's finest character actors, including Cheung Kwok Keung (Peking Opera Blues), Shing Fui On (Blue Jean Monster) and Lisa Chiao Chiao (One-Armed Swordsman).

Jackie Chan leaves Hollywood behind and returns as Hong Kong's action hero! Heroic Duo's director Benny Chan comes on board with his expertise on action, drama, and character development to breath new life into an old classic. Welcome a brand new police hero for the 21st century in New Police Story! Jackie has starred in four previous Police Story films: including 1986's Police Story, Police Story II in 1988, Police Story III: Super Cop (1992) and Police Story IV: First Strike (1996). Police Story took home the Best Film and Best Action Choreography at the Hong Kong Film Awards back when it was released, and even though New Police Story does not feature the usual Jackie character, Kevin Chan Ka Kui, any viewer will know this can only be a Jackie Chan Police Story film.

The film employs all the techniques Benny Chan is famed for: chaotic situations, large explosions, and detailed characters. The plot is tense and rapid, with one explosive scene following another, yet never loses the human touch. We get to see a rare side of Jackie, as a man wrecked with guilt, as well as a loving husband to the character played by Charlie Young, finally returning to the big screen after a long hiatus. Benny Chan managed to capture the tenderness rarely seen in a tough man like Jackie Chan. Jackie himself also takes on the task of action choreographer with Lee Chi Chung and House of Chan martial artists to create the stunning fight scenes that make a Police Story film so memorable.

Heartthrob Daniel Wu takes on the challenging task of playing the main villain, the leader of a gang of wealthy youth who kill cops for fun. Nicholas Tse plays the protege, a young cop who helps Jackie Chan's character get back on his feet.

Joy Sales The Owl VS Bumbo (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 350.00
Classic eighties stars Sammo Hung and George Lam team-up in the delightful buddy comedy Owl vs. Bombo. Also known by the title Owl vs. Dumbo, the film finds the amiable actors as two ex-thieves (named Owl and Bombo, naturally) who team-up when cop Chung (Stanley Fung) blackmails them into acting on his behalf. Neither Owl nor Bombo has ever been fingered for their crimes, but Chung has the goods on both. However, instead of sending them to the big house, he enlists their aid in bringing down a big-time gangster (James Tien) involved in police corruption.

Owl vs. Bombo is typical of Hong Kong Cinema's eighties output, meaning it's a melting pot of various genres, including slapstick comedy, martial arts action, and even romance and drama. Director Sammo Hung gives both he and George Lam romantic interests, with Owl (Lam) becoming involved with social worker Miss Yeung, played by Hong Kong superstar Michelle Yeoh, in her very first screen appearance. Bombo (Hung) also romances a social worker, played by singer-actress Deannie Ip. The film also provides surprising drama, as two couples attempt to repair the lives of a group of juvenile delinquents. However, despite that detour into inspirational drama, the film regroups for a martial arts action finale, plus there's even an added treat for Sammo Hung fans: the famously large martial artist engages in a solo dance number! Funny, poignant, and quite surprising, Owl vs. Bombo is classic Hong Kong entertainment.

John Woo usually limits his onscreen appearances to cameos and bit parts, but he plays a major supporting role as a Rebel from China in this grim 1990 action drama directed by Raymond Lee (Dragon Inn) and based on a story by Ringo Lam (City on Fire). Woo costars with up-and-coming exploitation movie leading man Vincent Wan Yeung Ming (Black Cat in Jail) as a pair of People's Liberation Army deserters who come to the aid of triad-troubled young woman (Cecilia Yip, Swordsman). Although Woo didn't get involved behind the camera on this one, his role is very much in the spirit of his trademark "heroic bloodshed" brand of filmmaking. Admirers of his directorial work, as well as fans of Ringo Lam's gritty storytelling and the ever-radiant Cecilia Yip, will all find something to their liking here.

Chen Ming (Wan) is a once-loyal member of the PLA who becomes disillusioned with the Chinese authority after his father is pressured into committing suicide. Along with his brother Kwong (Woo), Ming flees to Hong Kong, where the siblings try to build a new life without attracting too much attention. The Chens find a friend in their new neighbor Mei Ling (Yip), a struggling young woman who's gotten into trouble with the triads. The brothers decide to make a stand against Mei Ling's tormentors, a dangerous move that may cost them their freedom - or worse.

Joy Sales Will Of Iron (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) at 350.00 PHP from YesAsia
Joy Sales Will Of Iron (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 350.00
Veteran Shaw Brothers actor David Chiang directs Will of Iron, a cautionary thriller starring Hong Kong Cinema superstars Jacky Cheung and Maggie Cheung! Four longtime friends (Jacky Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Crystal Kwok and Michael Wong) have weathered the years together, but when Maggie returns from oversea schooling, she discovers that something is wrong with her former friends. Jacky and Crystal are expecting their first child, but Michael suspiciously avoids them, and everyone has differing excuses for the estrangement. Slowly, Maggie uncovers the truth: Jacky is now a pathetic cocaine addict, and Michael is his supplier! This development throws a wrench into Maggie and Michael's romantic reunion, which is further compounded by rising debt, betrayal, and drug-smuggling triads who seek to take advantage of Jacky's addiction. There's only one way all this can end: badly. Will of Iron takes a laudable message and presents it in harrowing cinema fashion, doubling and tripling up its physical blows with emotional ones that will make even the most violence-hardened individual wince reflexively. Over-the-top melodramatic and forcefully powerful, Will of Iron gets its worthy message across...and then some.
