Kam & Ronson Enterprises Co Ltd Twentieth Century Boys: Chapter 1 (VCD) (English Subtitled) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 400.00
Doomsday is upon Japan (again) in the thrilling all-star blockbuster 20th Century Boys based on Urasawa Naoki's acclaimed manga. Too big for just one film, 20th Century Boys is being released in three installments over one year's time. The first chapter lays the roots for the visionary trilogy's ambitious tale about a group of friends who emerge as unlikely heroes in the battle against an apocalyptic evil they had unwittingly foretold as children. More than just a good vs. evil doomsday saga, 20th Century Boys makes for a positively epic exercise in filmmaking and storytelling that spans multiple generations and genres, and bites into conspiracy theory, pop culture nostalgia, and spectacular special effects. Helmed by hit-making director Tsutsumi Yukihiko (Memories of Tomorrow), 20th Century Boys is certainly one of the greatest undertakings Japan Cinema has ever seen, with its six billion yen budget and staggeringly long cast list that runs 300 deep. Karasawa Toshiaki (Casshern) leads the ensemble cast that includes Tokiwa Takako (Mamiya Kyodai), Toyokawa Etsushi (The Sinking of Japan), Kagawa Teruyuki (Sukiyaki Western - Django), and Sasaki Kuranosuke (After School).

Kenji (Karasawa Toshiaki) used to be a wannabe rocker but, now in his thirties, he's back in his hometown running a convenience store and taking care of his baby niece. All seems quiet and uneventful in Kenji's life, save for the worried whispers about the rise of a cult led by a masked man who calls himself "Friend". The cult's logo seems eerily familiar, as do the news of mysterious deaths and terrorist acts around the world. Back in the summer of 1969, Kenji and his buddies sketched for fun a Book of Prophecy that predicted the world's end. Twenty-eight years later, the scenarios laid out in the Book of Prophecy are coming true one by one, and all fingers point to "Friend". As friends and foes of the past reappear for mankind's last stand, can Kenji fulfill his own prophecy and save the world?

Kam & Ronson Enterprises Co Ltd Catch A Wave (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 400.00
Beach, ocean, sunshine, and the summer of sixteen wash pleasantly onto shore in the 2006 surfing feature Catch a Wave. This lively youth film is based on a bestselling novel written by Toyoda Kazuma when he was only 16 years old as a documentary of his high school summer. Toyoda himself also adapted the novel into the film's screenplay, ensuring that the story stays young and true to spirit. Catch a Wave marks the feature debut of director Takahashi Nobuyuki who did the film editing for classic J-horrors like Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, and Retribution and co-directed the popular television drama Water Boys. Teen stars Miura Haruma (Koizora, 14 Year Old Mother), Kimura Ryo (Heat Island, Nodame Cantabile), and Hamada Gaku (Ahiru To Kamo No Coin Locker) play three high school boys who find more than they expect in an unforgettable summer of romance, friendship, and surfing. Catch a Wave also features television star Sakaguchi Kenji (Pride), Kato Rosa (A Cheerful Gang Turns the Earth), and character actor Takenaka Naoto (Nodame Cantabile).

Now that school's out, high school friends Taiyo (Miura Haruma), Kosuke (Hamada Gaku), and Seito (Kimura Ryo) are eager to get away from the city - not to mention their parents. They plan to spend their summer at the beach, but on the first day of arrival, the bumbling boys have already managed to lose their house keys. Fortunately, they meet strange old surf shop owner Duke Kawahara (Takenaka Naoto) who takes them in and recruits them to work at his shop in exchange for surfing instruction. And just like that, the three boys have found a new goal for their summer - to Catch a Wave at Shonan Beach.

Kam & Ronson Enterprises Co Ltd SDU: Sex Duties Unit (2013) (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 1,400.00
Hong Kong director Gary Mak mixes the city's favorite genres: police, sex and comedy all into one brew in his latest work SDU: Sex Duties Unit. Produced by Pang Ho Cheung, the films reminds of Pang's 2003 hit Men Suddenly In Black which takes on four men's extramarital affairs in Hong Kong; this time, the concept is similar but the setting has been changed to the Vegas of Asia, Macau. After failing an elite selection, the four-member "Special" Duties Unit played by Chapman To, Shawn Yue, Chow Hoi Kwong and Derek Tsang switch their focus from fighting crimes to a battle of pleasures.

The Special Duties Unit is the elite paramilitary tactical unit of the Hong Kong Police Force with the goal to counter terrorism and the most notorious and dangerous of criminals. After a disappointing international selection process, four members of the B team, Keung (Chapman To), Fu (Shawn Yue), Ho (Chow Hoi Kwong) and Mic (Derek Tsang), organize a private mission codenamed "Sex War." Hiding their true identities, the team illegally sneaks into Macau to visit the bordellos. Their seamless plan, however, is met with an unexpected anti-vice operation. To avoid charges, the four of them work together to break out of prison, turning their ambitious sex mission into a hilarious emergency escape plan

2013 action thriller The Twins' Code is an international production that combines the efforts of talents culled from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Hollywood. Well-known Hong Kong action director Ma Yuk Sing (The Warlords) choreographed the action scenes of the film.

A devastating financial crisis serves as the backdrop to the prologue of the story, in which a billionaire (Law Ka Ying), afraid of losing everything, encodes the details of a Swiss bank account containing billions of US dollars on a crystal USB drive. The drive requires two passwords, or the twins' code, to unlock its contents. He gives the USB drive to his daughter, Lin Dan (Yang Yu Mei), as a necklace pendant. However, Lin Dan dies in a mysterious car accident and the fortune is presumed lost. Thus begins a dangerous treasure hunt involving many people with different motives, including a woman who looks identical to the dead Lin Dan.

₱ 350.00
Written and produced by Wong Jing, breezy gangster actioner Bullet & Brain is the kind of entertaining genre hodgepodge that only Hong Kong can do so well. At times serious, at times silly, this fast-paced film is anchored with charismatic performances from Best Actor trio Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong, and Francis Ng. Wong and Ng, in particular, get to strut their stuff as the opaquely cool titular outlaws, Bullet and Brain. The veterans lead the way for their younger co-stars - Alex Fong (Love is Not All Around) and newcomer actresses Tiffany Tang, Liu Yang, and Liu Yuan Yuan - who help bring some youthful energy to the proceedings. Helmed by cinematographer-turned-director Keung Kwok Man, Bullet & Brain rolls action, drama, comedy, and romance together into a tight, unpredictable, and enjoyable roller coaster of a movie.

Triad boss Principal meets an untimely demise when his protege Winston (Andrew Wu) betrays him. Before his death, he left his Swiss bank account password to his granddaughter Rain (Tiffany Tang), who now becomes Winston's next target. Winston needs the money to cut a deal with another mob boss (Eric Tsang), and he's willing to use any means to get it. Rookie cop Fei (Alex Fong) is assigned to protect Rain, but he's more bumbling than brave and both are soon in deep waters with Winston's gang on the hunt. Luckily, the Principal also left Rain a torn bill that if sent out would bring the aid of his old friends, legendary criminals Bullet (Francis Ng) and Brain (Anthony Wong). The sharp-minded, sharp-shooting duo haven't been seen in years, but they're back with guns a-blazing to save Rain. The only problem: they vowed years ago to never kill or lie again.

Antonioni and Hitchcock meet Taiwanese melodrama in the mystery-thriller Zoom Hunting. Winds of September producer Cho Li makes an ambitious directorial debut with this suspenseful story of two sisters, played by Ning Chang (Black and White, What on Earth Have I Done Wrong?) and Zhu Zhi Yin (Lust, Caution), getting more than they bargain for when they become spectators to a possible murder happening across the street from their home. Cho and co-writer Kelly Yang craft an elaborate puzzle in which reality and illusion blend together seamlessly, keeping the audience constantly guessing along the way until its shocking conclusion. Jack Kao (Shinjuku Incident, James Wen (My Queen), Zhou Hen Yin, and Michelle Krusiec (Saving Face) also co-star in the voyeur mystery.

Out of curiosity, fashion photographer Ru Yi (Ning Chang) takes a photo of a couple (James Wen and Zhou Hen Yin) having sex in an apartment across the street from her home. Through further investigation, she finds out that the two are having an extramarital affair. When Ru Yi's novelist sister Ru Xing sees the pictures, she uses them to get over her latest bout with writer's block by incorporating it into her latest novel. However, Ru Yi later suspects that the man may have killed his lover and her sister may even have something to do with it.

We leave in order to return. Writers-directors Yan Yan Mak (Butterfly) and Clement Cheng (Gallants) held this value close to them for Merry-Go-Round, a visually lush urban drama about going home and finding your roots. Commissioned by Hong Kong's premier charity organization to commemorate its 140th anniversary, Merry-Go-Round follows three lost souls in an emotional story that spans generations and continents. After extensive research, Mak and Cheng chose to set their story in a "coffin home" owned by the organization, which houses coffins before family members can have them shipped for burials in their hometowns.

Led by Ella Koon (The Shopaholics) taking two roles in a commanding performance, the film's eclectic cast also includes Nora Miao (Way of the Dragon), Teddy Robin (Gallants), Lawrence Chou (Truth or Dare: 6th Floor Rear Flat), and Denise "HOCC" Ho. Cinematographer Jason Kwan (Love in a Puff) brilliantly captures the allure of Hong Kong and the seaside coffin home with gorgeous images that complements the melancholic acoustic score by Hong Kong independent musician Ketchup. Merry-Go-Round was also one of the two closing films at the 2010 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.

Running from her family, terminal illness patient and drug addict Merry (Ella Koon) goes to Hong Kong from San Francisco to look for her internet friend Allen (Lawrence Chou). After being ignored by Allen, Merry wanders her way to the seaside Tung Wah Coffin Home and gets a job working for Uncle Hill (Teddy Robin), the home's caretaker. Meanwhile, Allen's aunt Eva (Nora Miao), a Chinese medicine shop owner, also makes her way from San Francisco to Hong Kong to ensure that Allen doesn't sell the family's medicine shop in Hong Kong. In her hometown, she begins to remember her love affair decades ago with a businessman's son (Lu Yu Lai).

Blu-ray Edition comes with directors' commentary and The Story behind Merry-Go-Round.

Producer Tsui Hark and director Ching Siu Tung join forces for A Chinese Ghost Story, a wildly entertaining supernatural action-comedy-romance-horror-swordplay film that's as classic as Hong Kong Cinema gets! Ning (Leslie Cheung) is a mousy tax collector who spends a night in a supposedly haunted villa. Instead of obviously grotesque creatures, Ning meets an enchanting maiden named Sian (the ethereal Joey Wang). But Sian is a ghost bound to the netherworld, and worse, her master is a soul-sucking tree demon with an extremely long tongue! Ning is slated to become the demon's next meal, but some humanity remaining in Sian compels her to keep him alive. Romance blossoms, and Ning resolves to help Sian. He even enlists the aid of a drunken Taoist ghostbuster (Wu Ma) to save Sian and rout the evil demon. But even if the duo succeeds, everlasting love may be only a fantasy...

A winning combination of dizzying camerawork, gorgeous cinematography, beautiful sets and costumes, energetic action, and clever comedy has made A Chinese Ghost Story a worldwide audience favorite, and easily one of the most essential Hong Kong movies around. Ching Siu Tung finds the right balance of disparate elements to please both thrill-seekers and cinema lovers, and the result is a truly enjoyable motion picture with literally something for everyone! Followed by equally enjoyable sequels, A Chinese Ghost Story 2 and A Chinese Ghost Story 3.

Jet Li is a Mainland cop sent deep undercover in a Hong Kong gang of thieves. He's out of touch with his family, who worry about him constantly, but he's got his own problems. Not only is he under constant scrutiny from mega-bad guy Yu Wing Kwong, but he's got the Hong Kong cops (led by the dynamite Anita Mui) after him too! But when Jet's son (Tze Miu) comes looking for him in Hong Kong, the danger is multiplied! His identity could be compromised, which is bad news for him. But with both Jet and his son ready for tag-team kung-fu action, the news is doubly worse for the bad guys!

Perpetually happy-go-lucky Jackie Chan gets serious in Crime Story, a riveting police action film directed by Kirk Wong (Organized Crime and Triad Bureau). Inspector Eddie Chan (Jackie Chan) is a brilliant, but emotionally troubled cop assigned to protect a real-estate mogul (Law Kar Ying) who's been threatened with kidnapping. Unfortunately, despite Eddie's best efforts, he's unable to prevent the abduction. His emotions nearing a breaking point, Eddie is paired with fellow cop Hung (Kent Cheng) to track the kidnappers to Taiwan, but circumstances seem to be working against them. The investigation gets impeded at every turn, and there may even be some cops working against Eddie...

Based on an actual kidnapping case, Crime Story represents Jackie Chan's most serious work to date. Here, Jackie Chan portrays a hard-boiled, serious cop who's excellent at his job, but cannot take the consequences of his work emotionally. The passion and heartbreak of Eddie Chan are as vital to Crime Story as any of the action sequences, though those happen too. Kirk Wong's experience with the crime genre brings an authentic edge to the film, but it's Jackie Chan's wrenching performance that turns heads. Crime Story earned Jackie Chan a Best Actor Award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, and proves to his fans and non-fans alike that there's more to Jackie Chan than just action.

Factoring into the mess are Simon Yam as a dapper cop assigned to chase the multiplying hitmen, and cute Gigi Leung as Jet Li's adorable love interest. Director Stephen Tung intercuts the laughs with finely-choreographed action sequences, and the ace Hong Kong stars provide necessary charm and charisma. The latest retelling of The Legend of the White Snake, the US$25 million Sorcerer stars Eva Huang (Kung Fu Hustle) as a lovelorn demon and international superstar Jet Li as a Buddhist monk determined to keep natural law in order at any cost. Hong Kong director Herman Yau contributes to the centennial celebration of the Xinhai Revolution with his period kung fu biopic about late-Qing feminist and revolutionary Qiu Jin, whose heroic exploits were pivotal in bringing about the eventual downfall of the imperial regime in China. The maverick director of The Untold Story has long admired the legendary figure, and his entertaining portrayal of her life story on the silver screen admirably balances the historical drama stuff with exhilarating action scenes choreographed by veteran action director Leung Siu Hung (Ip Man). Yau brings back his The Legend is Born - Ip Man star Crystal Huang in the eponymous role, supported by a star-studded cast including Dennis To, Anthony Wong, Kevin Cheng, Rose Chan, Pat Ha, Lam Suet, Xiong Xinxin, Tsui Tin Yau, Wong Yau Nam, and Lollipop-F's A-wei.

When the women of her time had their feet bound to please men, Qiu Jin (Crystal Huang) was already questioning the sexual inequality of feudal traditions. Free-spirited and well-educated, she grew up practicing martial arts and was as well versed in poetry as she was in sword-fighting. When this rebellious girl moved to Beijing with her husband (Kevin Cheng), she witnessed how her country was raided and ravaged by foreign powers. With the encouragement of her neighbor Wu Zhiying (Pat Ha), the wife of righteous magistrate Li Zhongyue (Anthony Wong), Qiu Jin left her family behind to pursue study in Japan. There, she met some like-minded schoolmates who shared her ideals, including revolutionary leader Xu Xilin (Dennis To), and secretly joined his anti-Qing cause. After returning to China, Qiu Jin participated in the uprisings staged by Xu Xilin, leading a small group of hot-blooded students against the armed forces of the corrupt Qing government...

Few Taiwan films are more anticipated than Wei Te Sheng's 2011 historical epic Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, based on the true story of the 1930 Wushe Incident, when the aboriginal Seediq peoples rebelled against Japanese imperialist forces. Topping the critical and commercial success of Cape No. 7 would be difficult for Wei Te Sheng, but Taiwan's top-grossing director meets the challenge head-on with this ambitious and powerful two-part epic. Produced by John Woo, Seediq Bale required US$25 million for its lush period detail and riveting action sequences, making it the biggest endeavor in the history of Taiwan cinema. Breaking opening day records, the sweeping blockbuster was Taiwan's highest-grossing homegrown film of 2011 and the winner of Best Film at the 48th Golden Horse Awards.

Seediq Bale Part 1 sows the seeds for the film's powerful final conflict, depicting how the Seediq people are demoralized and finally reborn by their continued subjugation by the Japanese. Stripped of their native hunting grounds and forced to work deforesting the very mountains they called home, the rival Seediq tribes rallied together and violently rose up against years of Japanese repression in the 1930 Wushe Incident.

Shown in competition at the 68th Venice International Film Festival, Seediq Bale was shot primarily in the Seediq language, with some Mandarin, Taiwanese, and Japanese. Seediq priest Lin Ching Tai stars as the leader of the revolt, legendary warrior Mona Rudao, whose image is on Taiwan's 20NT coin today. Japanese actor Ando Masanobu (The Butcher, The Chef & The Swordsman), television actor and director Umin Boya, Golden Horse Best Supporting Actor winner Bokeh Kosang, Cape No. 7's Tanaka Chie, and singers Landy Wen, Irene Luo, and Vivian Hsu (Hot Summer Days) are among the film's large ensemble cast of name stars and non-professional actors.

This release includes Part I of Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale and an interview with John Woo and Wei Te Sheng.

Third time's the charm as the Kung Fu Mahjong franchise returns for another round with Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel. Directed by Bosco Lam, the film features the usual suspects - television star Roger Kwok (Square Pegs) who skipped out on the sequel but returns for the third film, kung fu duo Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu, and, of course, writer and producer Wong Jing. Kung Fu Mahjong 3 bears no connection to the previous films save for the cast and the love for the tiles. Roger Kwok is supported by a welcome line-up of faces not usually seen on the big screen including TVB starlet and former Miss Hong Kong Shirley Yeung in her film debut, veteran comedic actor Ha Yu, ATV actress Patricia Liu, and stylish ATV actor Ricky Chan Bo Yuen (Confession of Pain). Comedic mainstays DJ Sammy, Wong Yat Fei, and Nat Chan also wander in for some humorous hijinks. Like the previous two films, Kung Fu Mahjong 3 - The Final Duel is light, energetic, and hilarious, providing plenty of good old harmless fun.

As the son of the legendary Uncle Man (Ha Yu), suave mahjong expert Ken (Roger Kwok) is the de-facto successor to his father's mahjong business and gambling title. It seems love is in the air for both father and son, as Uncle Man saunters in with his new young wife Sophie (Patricia Liu) and Ken meets the charming Nancy (Shirley Yeung). The good times quickly run dry though when it turns out that Nancy is a bad luck magnet who brings calamity to all she comes in contact with. Stricken with some serious bad luck, Ken just can't stop losing. Meanwhile, the cunning Sophie, working in cahoots with rival Bowie (Ricky Chan), tries to usurp the family business by challenging Ken to a high-stakes mahjong match. Can Ken overcome his losing streak in time to save the business?

Charismatic actor Lam Suet, having supported almost every recent Johnnie To movie from PTU to Exiled, now leads the cast of House of the Invisibles, an eerie movie about a haunted house. Directed by Elfa Lee, the film also stars rising TVB actress Tong Ling (who was known as Leila Kong when she made films like Those Were the Days in her teens). Together with veteran comedian Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung, sexy TV actress Natalie Ng, and Eddie Pang from the boy band EO2, they bring the audience into a creepy building!

Shot in Malaysia, House of the Invisibles is set in a shabby old building which only accommodates a few households. They include Fat Chow (Lam Suet) and his wife (Emily Kwan) who has broken her legs in an accident, and Chow's colleague Chee (Tong Ling) and her good-for-nothing artist boyfriend (Eddie Pang). While Chow's other colleague Chung (Wayne Lai) gets addicted to gambling, Chow can't resist the temptation of visiting prostitutes like Kiu (Natalie Ng). These people have been very content living their decadent lives, despite the garbage woman's (Ha Ping) frequent advice, until one day they accidentally cross paths with the world of the dead...
