How do I find my Nike shoe size?

  1. Stand on a flat surface with your heel against the wall. Tape a blank paper underneath so it’s easy to document the measurement.
  2. Mark the heel-to-toe length on the paper underneath and repeat it with the other foot.
  3. Use a ruler or tape to measure the heel-to-toe length.
  4. It’s suggested that you put on a pair of socks before measuring your feet so that your shoes won’t be too tight.
  5. Since the feet swell during the day, try to do this process during the afternoon.

How do I maintain my Nike products?

Shoes

  1. Remove any excess dirt or dust on the outsole with a brush.
  2. In a bucket or container, mix water and detergent until you get a soapy mixture.
  3. Dip a sponge, brush, or clean cloth into the detergent mixture and clean the dirty areas.
  4. If needed, take another brush or cloth to remove the soap residue from the shoes.
  5. Leave your clean Nike shoes out to air dry.

To remove bad odors from the interior of your Nike shoes, simply remove the insole before doing the steps above. Nike PH recommends that you avoid using the washing machine to clean your shoes. Also, to increase the longevity of your Nike shoes, store them in their box when they’re not in use.

Clothes

Unlike the shoes from Nike Philippines, cleaning and maintaining your Nike clothes and accessories are much easier. Make sure you follow the laundry label attached to the clothes so they don’t stretch, tear, or discolor when you wash them.

Nike was originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports and was founded by a track athlete from University of Oregon Philip Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman in 1964. Making most of their sales at track meets from Knight’s automobile, BRS was able to sell 1,300 pairs of Onitsuka Tiger’s sports shoes. The company rapidly grew and by 1966, they opened their first BRS retail store in Santa Monica, California. After the ending of their relationship with Onitsuka Tiger, BRS planned to launch its own line of footwear in 1971 featuring the swoosh logo, officially trade marked it in 1974. They also went with the name Nike in 1971, aptly deriving from the name of the Greek goddess of victory.

The Nike swoosh

The famous swoosh logo is so strongly associated with Nike that today, you don’t have to see the word Nike to know that it is from the brand. As long as you see the swoosh logo, you know it is Nike.

The logo was designed by graphic designer Carolyn Davidson. At that time, she was still a graphic design student in Portland State University. Carolyn’s logo creation was recognized by Knight who was teaching accounting at the university. After rejecting several designs, Knight settled for the swoosh design. Davidson was paid $35 for her services. Who would have thought that this $35 design would blow up to become one of the world’s most famous and recognized logos?

Just do it

The slogan “Just do it” was coined by the founder of Wieden + Kennedy agency, Dan Wieden. As bleak as it may sound, he drew inspiration from Gary Gilmore’s last words before his execution. The “Just do it” campaign proved to be tremendously successful, allowing Nike to increase its share from a mere 18% to 48%. This campaign launched in 1988 was also selected as the top two taglines in the 20th century by the Age, calling it “universal and intensely personal”. This slogan motivates and inspires, pushing people to be the best they can be. The campaign also featured famous athletes such as football stars Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney, basketball stars Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant as well as tennis players Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal which further inspired people to aim high and “Just do it”. The campaign was so successful that it went out of range with media outlets which includes merchandise, billboards, print media and even graffiti art.
