Two brothers try to create a miracle in I Wish, the latest film from acclaimed Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu (Nobody Knows, Still Walking). Despite being produced for a mass audience and various commercial interests (including Japan Rail), the editor-writer-director manages to retain his signature documentary style and his eye for capturing subtly powerful emotional moments. Real-life stand-up comedy team/siblings Maeda Maeda (comprised of 12-year-old Koki and 10-year-old Oshiro) make their big screen debut as separated brothers who hope to reunite their family with the magic power of the new Kyushu bullet train route. In addition to the adorable Maeda brothers, I Wish also features a stellar adult cast that includes Odagiri Joe (Tokyo Tower), Otsuka Nene (Hero), Kiki Kirin (Villain), Hashitsume Isao (Space Battleship Yamato), Natsukawa Yui (Still Walking), Abe Hiroshi (Trick), Nagasawa Masami (The Last Princess), and Harada Yoshio.

After their parents' divorce, brothers Koichi (Maeda Koki) and Ryunosuke (Maeda Oshiro) are forced to live separately. While the older Koichi is miserable in Kagoshima with his mother (Otsuka Nene) and grandparents (Kiki Kirin and Hashitsume Isao), the younger Ryunosuke enjoys a laid-back life with his musician father (Odagiri Joe) in Fukuoka. Despite their different lives, the two brothers - who often contact each other on their cell phones - want desperately for their family to reunite. One day, Koichi hears that the energy generated when two trains on the new Kyushu bullet train line pass each other can make any wish come true, as long as the wisher is present. Koichi and Ryunosuke then decide to hatch a plan - with the assistance of their friends and other adults - that involves meeting at where the two trains pass and combine their wishes for a better chance of a reunion.

Panorama Speechless (2012) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 349.00
Hong Kong indie filmmaker Simon Chung (Innocent (2005) and End of Love (2008)) endeavors to speak out for the gay community via his films. In his third feature Speechless, an exchange student from France named Luke (Pierre-Mathieu Vital) is found naked and unconscious on the riverside in a remote border town in Southern China. When he wakes up, unable to speak and without memory of what happened, he strikes up a relationship with male nurse Xiao Jiang (Gao Qilun), who takes the silent stranger out of the hospital and gradually uncovers the reason behind his speechlessness. Screened at major LGBT film festivals in London, Toronto and Turin, the interracial romance easily appeals to people of any sexual orientation as it reveals the true nature of love: that it is transcendent, but it can also fade away like the morning dew.

Hong Kong romance director Patrick Kong's (Love Is The Only Answer) latest film Natural Born Lovers pairs up handsome singer-actor Julian Cheung Chi Lam (The Grandmasters) with gorgeous actress Annie Liu (Exodus). When pastry chef Lam (Cheung) meets nurse Bo (Liu), he is instantly attracted to her by her angelic beauty and ladylike grace. They soon fall madly in love with each other, but Lam begins to see the not-so-desirable side of her: that she is a control freak prone to jealousy, paranoia and violence! Bo obsessively spies on him all day, invading his privacy with unauthorized access to his phone calls and online accounts. Unable to escape this "love maniac," Lam counter-investigates her, leading him to the surprising discovery of the secret behind her outrageous behaviors...

After a radio station, a luxury hotel, and a small town, popular playwright-screenwriter-director Mitani Koki (The Magic Hour, Suite Dreams) makes the courtroom his latest stage in Once in a Blue Moon (a.k.a. A Ghost of a Chance). The hilarious supernatural comedy stars Fukatsu Eri (The Magic Hour) as a clumsy lawyer who discovers that the only witness she has to save her latest case is the spirit of a dead samurai, played by Nishida Toshiyuki. As he does with every film, Mitani pays tribute to classic Hollywood cinema with big stars, a grand stage design, and clever writing that will entertain and tickle audiences from start to finish.

In addition to Fukatsu and Nishida, Mitani's latest all-star cast also includes Abe Hiroshi (Still Walking), Nakai Kiichi (Railways), Takeuchi Yuko (Be With You), Asano Tadanobu (Villon's Wife), as well as cameos by SMAP's Kusanaga Tsuyoshi, Sato Koichi (The Magic Hour), Oizumi Yo (Gegege no Kitaro), Fukada Kyoko (Yatterman), and Shinohara Ryoko (Unfair). A hilarious courtroom comedy with genuinely touching moments, Once in a Blue Moon spent four weeks at the top of the Japanese box office, and it's also one of the leading grand prize nominees at the 2012 Japan Academy Prize.

Emi (Fukatsu Eri) is passionate about being a lawyer, but her clumsiness has caused her to mess up one case after another. Finally, her boss Hayami (Abe Hiroshi) issues her an ultimatum: Win the next case, or lose her job. Her latest client is a timid man accused of murdering his wife (Takeuchi Yuko), and the only person who can support his alibi is the ghost of Rokubei (Nishida Toshiyuki), a samurai who's been dead for over 400 years. Realizing that she, too, has the ability to see Rokubei, Emi decides to make Rokubei the defense's key witness. But how will Emi convince the rest of the world that the ghost of a samurai is a credible witness?

Panorama Bunny Drop (2011) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 399.00
Initially an auteur of men-on-the-run films, Japanese director SABU has been branching out to other genres in recent years with Kanikosen and his latest film Bunny Drop. Based on the first half of the ongoing manga series by Unida Yumi, Bunny Drop is a gentle comedy-drama about a single 30-year-old white-collar worker who suddenly becomes a father figure to his late grandfather's six-year-old illegitimate daughter. While Matsuyama Kenichi (Death Note, Gantz) is the star of the film as the inexperienced single father, the real revelation of Bunny Drop is seven-year-old Ashida Mana, one of the most popular child stars in Japan. Her performance in Bunny Drop is a showcase of her acting talent and syrupy sweet persona, showing why she is now the most in-demand young star in the Japanese entertainment world today.

30-year-old Daikichi (Matsuyama Kenichi) returns home after a long absence for his grandfather's funeral. For the first time, he discovers the existence of Rin (Ashida Mana), his grandfather's six-year-old illegitimate daughter. Rejecting his relatives' call to send Rin to an orphanage, Daikichi takes in Rin and becomes a father figure to his new aunt, suddenly dealing with all the troubles that would befall any working single parent. Thanks to the help of fellow single parent Yukari (Karina), Daikichi learns to become a better father.

Panorama Lost In Thailand (2012) (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)
₱ 349.00
In 2010, comedic stars Xu Zheng (Love in the Buff) and Wang Baoqiang (A World Without Thieves) teamed up for Lost on Journey, a road comedy about two men trying to survive the annual Lunar New Year migration period. Made on a low budget, Lost on Journey was a surprise hit at the Chinese box office.

Two years later, Xu reunites with Wang for Lost in Thailand, a thematic follow-up that also marks Xu's directorial debut. Armed with a much bigger budget (several times higher than the original film), Xu takes the adventure to Thailand, the home of elephants, temples and the Water Festival. Joining the two travelers in the craziness is fellow comedy star Huang Bo (Crazy Racer), playing the villain in constant pursuit of the two heroes. Thanks to the popularity of the first film, the exotic locations and a theatrical release slot during the busiest cinema-going season of the year, Lost in Thailand shattered box office records and became the top-grossing local film in Chinese history.

After years of research, Xu Lang (Xu Zheng) finally found success in creating the Supergas Petroleum Enhancer. The only way he can get funding for additional development is to go to Thailand and have his company's majority shareholder sign a letter of attorney. However, his professional rival Gao Bo (Huang Bo) wants to sell the technology for a quick buck and will stop at nothing to get his own letter of attorney signed first. On the way to Thailand, Xu Lang encounters Wang Bo (Wang Baoqiang), a simple onion cake maker on his first vacation overseas. In the heat of the chase, Wang Bo ends up joining Xu Lang on an adventure across Thailand with Gao Bo close on their tail.

Promising that this is her final commercial film, Xu ups the ante by taking her production across the world to Hong Kong, England and Australia. Dear Enemy also features Gigi Leung (Marrying Mr. Perfect), Aarif Lee (Echoes of the Rainbow), Christy Chung (Jan Dara) and Michael Wong (Overheard).

A capital investment bank led by Derek Lee (Stanley Huang) is launching a hostile takeover of a lithium producer firm on the behalf of another company. To fight off Derek's mysterious client, the CEO of the lithium producer firm (Michael Wong) brings in Amy Liang (Xu Jinglei) as financial advisor. However, Amy is also Derek's former lover. The two still hold resentment towards each other over their break-up ten months prior, and they're now on a cat-and-mouse chase across the globe on a messy business battle. Meanwhile, financial news blogger Henry (Aarif Lee) is monitoring the action and reporting it all to the public.

Winner of four awards at the 2013 Los Angeles Movie Awards, the Malaysian film Paper Moon uses the art of traditional kite-making, or "wau bulan," to connect a love story across two generations. Directed by Stanley Law, the gentle and picturesque drama brings together the unique cast of Hong Kong stars Chrissie Chau and Gordon Lam and Malaysian singers Tedd Chan and Rynn Lim for a heartrending romance set in the eighties and the present day.

Traditional kitemaker Tian Song (Gordon Lam) runs a small workshop in a coastal village with his apprentice Xiao Dong (Rynn Lim). Tian Song can barely make ends meet but he refuses to switch to modern kites. He meets a bubbly tourist (Chrissie Chau), who reminds him of someone from the past. Over two decades ago, 18-year-old Tian Song (Tedd Chan) fell in love with a girl (Chrissie Chau) from a rich family. In each other, the two young lovers found hope, excitement and freedom. Defying parental objection, they eloped, but the difficulties of life soon caught up.

After an eight-year hiatus, Hong Kong action maestro Ringo Lam once again steps behind the camera in the action-crime drama Wild City. Starring Louis Koo (SPL 2: A Time For Consequences), Shawn Yue (Helios), Tong Liya (The Taking Of Tiger Mountain) and Joseph Chang (Murmur Of The Hearts), the film is described by Lam as the last in his "City Trilogy," which also includes City on Fire and Full Alert. As expected of a Ringo Lam film, Wild City is noted for its heart-pumping action sequences and stark dynamism.

It's safe to say that former police officer and current bar owner T-Man (Louis Koo) got much more than he bargained for when he reluctantly escorts a drunk patron (Tong Liya) home. Not only is the woman, Yun, embroiled in a messy criminal transaction, she is also the target of a manhunt led by triad enforcer Blackie (Joseph Chang) thanks to a luggage of cash she stole. Once T-Man and his rebellious brother Chung (Shawn Yue) learn of Yun's story, they agree to help her, but as the three dive deeper and deeper into the conflict, they start to realize that they're merely pawns in a much larger game.

After making his directorial debut with the documentary Mazu Procession last year, the multitalented Richie Jen returns with his first dramatic feature, All You Need Is Love! Serving as co-writer, co-director and star, Richie teams up with Shu Qi (also one of the film's co-writers) for a romantic comedy that exudes all the brightness and joy of summer.

Tired of her family constantly nagging her to get married, spoilt heiress Yeh Fenfen (Shu Qi) books a stay at a beautiful villa on the Penghu Islands, which are the subject of a classic song on a tape left for her by her mother. When she arrives at her destination, she's dismayed to find that the gorgeous villa is actually a rundown B&B owned by Wu (Richie Jen). It turns out that Wu's friends, hoping to drum up some business for the B&B, falsified a few details about the state of the property on the internet. Angered by the deception, Fenfen packs her bags and leaves the next day. But, when she loses all of her luggage on the boat ride, Fenfen has no choice but to head back to the island.

Arguably Hong Kong's smartest and wittiest filmmaker Pang Ho Cheung (Vulgaria, Aberdeen) produces Lazy Hazy Crazy, the directorial debut of his frequent screenwriter Jody Luk. This ribald comedy-drama is a playful, salacious and incredibly naughty coming-of-age story about three disaffected high school friends who find growth and change through sexual exploration. Uncommon to current Hong Kong film, the young actresses all turn in daring performances featuring frank language and nudity. Director Luk based the screenplay on interviews with actual Hong Kong girls though names have obviously been changed to protect the not-so-innocent.

Alice (Fish Liew, Doomsday Party) uses WeChat to source paid dates, but her clients sometimes request deviant sexual behavior as part of her services. Meanwhile, Alice helps Chloe (Koyi Mak) set up her own dating profile but while the two become closer friends, Alice may be developing more than platonic feelings for Chloe. Watching both is the virgin Tracy (Ashina Kwok), who grows jealous of her friends' growing bond. Wishing to become sexually active, she has Alice introduce her to club girl work, where she becomes the exclusive date of the charming and rich Raymond (Gregory Wong, Lan Kwai Fong). But despite her steps into the adult world, Tracy's true love is a high school boy, Andrew (Tse Sit Chun).

The film is set in China's Hengdian World Studios, the world's largest film studio and the shooting locale of countless Chinese period productions. Audiences are introduced to the world of Chinawood through the eyes of bumbling country boy Peng (Wang Guopeng), who arrives in Hengdian with nothing to his name besides an earnest desire to become an actor. From there, he befriends fellow wannabe thespians with dreams and disillusions of their own, and gradually learns the ropes of life as an extra at Hengdian, from survival know-how to working protocol, in the process offering a slice-of-life insider's look into acting and filmmaking in all its scrappy glory.

Aired in 2000, the TVB drama Return of the Cuckoo was a beloved hit that moved Hong Kong audiences with its touching story of family, friendship and love in Macau. The series revitalized the career of Julian Cheung Chi Lam, who gave a memorable turn as the mute hero in love with his adoptive sister, and cemented then newcomer Charmaine Sheh as a leading lady. Fifteen years later, the original cast returns for the film sequel directed by Patrick Kong. Besides Cheung and Sheh, many other supporting cast members are back including Nancy Sit as the protagonists' mother, Michael Tong as their wayward friend, and Steven Ma in a cameo appearance, while legendary Hong Kong actor Kent Tong and Taiwan actress Joe Chen (Our Times) join the film in new roles.

After Kwan Ho (Charmaine Sheh) married and emigrated to the United States, Man Cho (Julian Cheung) continued with his life in Macau. He is busy as ever working as a tour guide and has developed a close bond with mute neighborhood friend Kiki (Joe Chen). In 1999 on the day of Macau's handover back to China, Kwan Ho (Charmaine Sheh) shows up out of the blue to join birthday celebrations for her mother (Nancy Sit). That night, she attempts to take her own life. Her husband and children had suddenly passed away in a car accident, and she has lost her will to live. With Man Cho's support, Kwan Ho gradually heals and starts anew while also confronting new challenges and the ambiguous unspoken love that has tied them together all these years.

Following the critical and commercial success of The Way We Dance which turned into a sleeper hit in 2013, director Adam Wong and writer/producer Saville Chan team up again to tell another wistful, youthful Hong Kong story in She Remembers, He Forgets. Set in the present day and the early nineties, the film contrasts the now and then of a married couple, who first met in high school and face a midlife relationship crisis after years together. Miriam Yeung (Little Big Master) and popular Hong Kong personality Jan Lamb play the adult protagonists while newcomers Cecilia So, Nick Yau and Ng Siu Hin anchor the teenage years.

Married for ten years, Gigi (Miriam Yeung) and Shing Wah (Jan Lamb) have reached a stalemate in their relationship, with both consumed by work and barely communicating. A high school reunion prompts Gigi to flash back to memories of her school days when she was close with the rowdy, outgoing Shing Wah and another boy, the smart and serious Bok Man. Back then, the three of them were all members of the school's aviation club, and mired in the dreams and angst of adolescence. Confronted with what her life has become, Gigi begins to wonder what ever happened to Bok Man, and what lies ahead for her and Shing Wah.
