The Yuppie Fantasia (1989) Director Gordon Chan helms The Yuppie Fantasia, a hilarious and well-observed modern comedy starring Lawrence Cheng and Carol "Dodo" Cheng! Leung Foon (Lawrence Cheng) is an ad agency employee whose marriage to Ann (Carol Cheng) is hitting the skids after eight years. He considers making a break from his wife, and his timing couldn't be more fortuitous. His new boss is the gorgeous Mrs. Lam (Cherie Chung), who takes a shine to him. Leung Foon also has ex-girlfriend Jenny (Elizabeth Lee) to contend with, and office politics and intrigue aplenty. Will he discover that the grass truly is greener on the other side, or will he decide that the covenant of marriage is the way to go? An insightful comedy about love and marriage in modern Hong Kong, The Yuppie Fantasia was a popular hit during its 1989 theatrical run, and is one of many collaborations between Lawrence Cheng and top comedienne Carol Cheng. Brief Encounter In Shinjuku (1990) The hilarious sequel to the 1989 hit The Yuppie Fantasia, Brief Encounter in Shinjuku brings back Lawrence Cheng as a thirty-something Hong Kong yuppie finding misadventures in love and marriage. Leung Foon (Lawrence Cheng) and Ann (Carol "Dodo" Cheng) reunite after the events of The Yuppie Fantasia, but issues still exist. Ann works overtime to be a better wife, and Leung Foon attempts mightily to be a model, upright husband. But being perfect spouses can take its toll, and soon the possibility of infidelity arises for both of them. For Leung Foon, the temptation comes in the form of new office colleague Dream Kwan (Rosamund Kwan), who's got the entire office abuzz with her stunning beauty. Will Ann and Leung Foon decide once and for all that marriage is not for them? Director Gordon Chan brings wry observations and light-hearted comedy to Brief Encounter in Shinjuku, a modern comedy that easily matches, and possibly even surpasses its predecessor! The Yuppie Fantasia 3 (2017) Three decades after the original The Yuppie Fantasia sung the everyday man's woes of love, marriage and temptation in modern Hong Kong, Lawrence Cheng returns to write, direct and star in the hit relationship comedy series' third installment. The Yuppie Fantasia 3 reacquaints audiences with Cheng's 52-year-old Leung Foon, the "small man" of yesteryear who has since become a rich, demanding and successful businessman. Foon's only regret is that his wife Ann (Carol Cheng), who left him years ago, can't see how much he has grown. However, Foon hasn't changed much when it comes to romantic misadventures, as he carries on a fling with his much younger secretary (Chrissie Chau). When his 21-year-old daughter (Laurine Tang), whom he hasn't seen since she was eight, suddenly shows up one day with news of her mother's death, Foon is forced to finally reassess himself and his follies.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of director Ozu Yasujiro's death, veteran Japanese director Yamada Yoji's 50 years as a director and the 60th anniversary of Tokyo Story, Yamada Yoji pays tribute to the timeless classic with Tokyo Family, his 82nd film. A contemporary update of Tokyo Story, Tokyo Family follows the basic structure of the Ozu film, but updates the original story's pessimistic message, which laments the erosion of familial bond in a rapidly developing postwar Japan, to a modern one that is more optimistic about today's young generation. At the same time, Yamada also recognizes that the fragmentation of the family unit seen in the original film is just as relevant today as it was back in 1953. The biggest change Yamada and co-writer Hiramatsu Emiko make from Tokyo Story is replacing the family's widowed daughter-in-law with a wayward youngest son and his kind girlfriend, played by Tsumabuki Satoshi (For Love's Sake) and Aoi Yu (Rurouni Kenshin), respectively. The two are joined by a talented cast of actors, including Hashitzume Isao (I Wish), Yoshiyuki Kazuko (Departures), Natsukawa Yui (Still Walking), Nishimura Masahiko (Space Brothers), Nakajima Tomoko (A Taste of Tea) and Hayashiya Shozo. Featuring a score by Hisaishi Joe, Tokyo Family is a touching human drama that isn't just the story of one family; this is everyone's story. Retired teacher Shukichi (Hashizume Isao) and his wife Tomiko temporarily leave their peaceful island life to visit their children in Tokyo: eldest son Koiichi (Nishimura Masahiko), daughter Shigeko (Nakajima Tomoko) and unreliable youngest son Shoji (Tsumabuki Satoshi). Due to the children's busy schedules, Shukichi and Tomiko are shuffled around Tokyo from home to home. The two are especially worried about Shoji, who has been a burden on the family in the past and now barely scraping by as a stage set designer. Fortunately, Tomiko finds solace when she meets Shoji's kind girlfriend Noriko (Aoi Yu). However, the two parents' hectic schedule eventually takes a toll on them...

Take a rip-roaring thrill ride through space and time with Donnie Yen in Iceman, the highly anticipated two-part modern update of the 1989 Hong Kong action hit Iceman Cometh. Also serving as co-producer and action director, Yen stars as a Ming Dynasty warrior who wakes up in modern Hong Kong after spending centuries frozen in ice. Sparing no money to pull off a big-scale action fantasy, the filmmakers created multiple large-scale action sequences, including an astonishing grand finale set on Hong Kong's Tsing Ma Bridge (recreated on the old Hong Kong airport's runway) featuring explosive 3D action that must be seen to be believed. Iceman also stars Wang Baoqiang (Lost in Thailand) as another thawed Ming warrior out to capture his former friend, Eva Huang (Sorcerer and the White Snake) as a bar waitress who saves the hero and Simon Yam (The Midnight After) as a police officer with ulterior motives. He Ying (Donnie Yen) is a loyal bodyguard of the Ming Dynasty. While returning from a mission in India, he is accused of working with Japanese pirates by comrade-in-arms Sao (Wang Baoqiang). During the ensuing chase, an avalanche buries He Ying, Sao and other soldiers, keeping them frozen in ice for centuries. In 2014, a mysterious man orders He Ying and Sao to be brought to Hong Kong and resurrected. However, a traffic accident causes He Ying to return to life prematurely. While He Ying roams the city like a fish out of water, Sao has also been resurrected and is determine to make He Ying pay for his crimes. With the help of a kind bar waitress (Eva Huang), He Ying sets out to evade capture and clear his name. This edition features the 2D version only. It includes making of and trailers.

Directed by Louis Leterrier, Danny the Dog (a.k.a. Unleashed) is international action star Jet Li's fifth Hollywood film. Instead of the heroic roles he has played in his previous works, Jet Li portrays a man who has been trained as a fierce dog and later wants to escape from his captor. Joined by Bob Hoskins and Academy Awards Best Supporting Actor Morgan Freeman, Jet Li exhibits his spectacular martial arts skills in many thrilling fight scenes choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping (Matrix). Danny (Jet Li) has been living with Bart (Bob Hoskins) ever since he was a kid. Deprived of contact with the outside world, he has learned only one thing from Bart: how to fight. Raised as a dog, complete with collar, Danny has become Bart's most powerful and lethal fighting machine. One day he meets Sam (Morgan Freeman), a blind piano tuner, and his step-daughter Victoria (Kerry Condon), and learns for the first times what kindness and affection mean. Danny wants to start a new life as a human being, but Bart isn't about to just let him go free. Left with no choice, Danny must fight again, but this time it's for his own future!

Having won numerous international accolades including the Camera d'Or prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and Best Film at the 50th Golden Horse Awards, Singaporean director Anthony Chen's debut feature Ilo Ilo is a complex, bittersweet and empathetic family drama set against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. Centered on the relationship between a Filipino maid and her employer's young child, the film's depiction of their interaction in a dynamic and uncertain environment comes across as a realistic portrayal of modern family relationships, especially since the story is inspired by Chen's personal experience. Brimming with the warmth and tensions of daily life, the film is a brilliant observation of parent-child relationships in Asian households and the strengths and challenges of family values in the face of adversity. Ten-year-old schoolboy Lim Jiale (Koh Jia Ler) is a rebellious child with a pregnant working mother Hwee Leng (Yeo Yann Yann) and a father Keng Teck (Chen Tian Wen) who has just lost his job. Fed up with their son's bullying behavior and undergoing enormous pressure in the financial recession, they hire dutiful domestic worker Teresa (Angeli Bayani) who soon becomes an integral part of the family despite their initial unhappy events.

Starring Huang Xiaoming (The Crossing Part 1) and Lau Ching Wan (Overheard series), who racked up one of his two Best Actor nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance, the film focuses on the twisty relationship between a schizophrenic man and his doctor. Three years ago, Fan Kwok Sang (Lau Ching Wan) accidentally killed his wife during a schizophrenic episode. Since then, he's been receiving treatment from Dr. Chow Ming Kit (Huang Xiaoming) whilst under confinement at a psychiatric hospital. Following this victory, Chow's fortunes rise considerably, and he soon finds himself ascending to the position of hospital director. On the other hand, still tormented by demons real and imagined, Fan's mental state slowly begins to circle back to its darkest point. Directed by Casey Chan (I Love You, Mom), the oddball sports drama Lost in Wrestling strikes a winning formula with its eclectic cast, strange yet earnest story and kitschy, throwback vibe. Mongolian wrestler Naren (Zhao Ke, Love in Time) heads to Osaka to participate in a tournament and to look for her childhood friend Chinasi who disappeared to Japan years ago. In Japan, she meets Japanese wrestler Kazuko (Watanabe Naoko, Nude) and Hong Kong girl Riri (Li Fei'er, Chongqing Blues), who ran away from home. She also encounters Chinasi, now a reflexologist going by the name Ruonan (William Chan, Triad) who has no intentions of returning to Mongolia. At the behest of the tournament's mysteriously manic masked host "Boss," Naren, Kazuko and Riri form a wrestling team, but then the competition suddenly gets changed to mud wrestling.

Journey to the West comes to the big screen like never before in the 2007 film Monkey Magic! This is the latest in a long line of adaptations of the Wu Cheng'en tome. One of the four great Chinese classics, Journey to the West, or Saiyuuki in Japanese, is about the adventures of Tang Dynasty monk Tripitaka and his mischievous magical disciples as they journey to India to retrieve the Buddhist sutras. This fantastical allegorical tale has been adapted countless times for the big and small screen, notably in classic Chinese films like Ho Meng Hua's The Monkey Goes West series and Stephen Chow's The Chinese Odyssey series. In Japan, Saiyuuki also inspired many adaptations including the anime series Dragonball and an immensely popular TV series in 1978. Fuji TV took a leap of faith in 2006 with their own brand-new 11-episode Saiyuuki starring Katori Shingo of SMAP as famed monkey king Son Goku. Actress Fukatsu Eri (The Professor's Beloved Formula) plays monk Sanzo Hoshi (Tripitaka), echoing the gender twist of the 1970s series. Ito Atsushi (Densha Otoko) and Uchimura Teruyoshi (Zebraman) complete the square as lecherous swine spirit Cho Hakkai (Pigsy) and water demon Sa Gojou (Friar Sand), with updated personalities and powers. The TV drama was such a huge success, it was followed up with a feature film in 2007, with the original cast reprising their roles. Helmed by TV director Sawada Kensaku, feature film Monkey Magic retains the narrative quirks, zany energy, and colorful demons that made the drama so fresh and entertaining. The manic comic powers of Katori Shingo show no signs of abating as the gang of four takes their journey to the silver screen. This time, they encounter a princess whose parents have been turned into turtles by two powerful demons, played by Kaga Takeshi (Death Note) and Kishitani Goro (Like a Dragon). Son Goku and company head for the mystical mountains to battle the demons...

Following 2003's dreamy Last Life in the Universe, acclaimed Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang teams up with Asano Tadanobu again for the pan-Asian neo-noir Invisible Waves. Under the artful lens of cinematographer Christopher Doyle (best known for his work with Wong Kar Wai), Invisible Waves drips with atmosphere as the film travels from Hong Kong and Macau to Thailand. Moody, violent, and beautiful, Invisible Waves takes a quirky, introspective journey towards the root of guilt. In addition to go-to actor Asano Tadanobu, the international cast includes Korean actress Gang Hye Jung (Old Boy), Hong Kong veterans Eric Tsang and Maria Cordero, and Japanese actor Mitsuishi Ken. Japanese chef Kyoji (Asano Tadanobu) works in a Macau restaurant run by Thai gangsters. On orders from his boss, he kills his lover - who also happens to be the boss's wife. Forced to flee, he jumps on a ship heading to Phuket, Thailand. On the ship, Kyoji meets a motley line-up of strange characters, including a young mother (Gang Hye Jung), a monk (Eric Tsang), an all-knowing matron (Maria Cordero), and an odd hitman (Mitsuishi Ken) who was sent to kill him but instead accompanies him on a bizarre trip through Thailand. Soon even his boss shows up to square old debts. Kyoji's greatest obstacle, however, is his own mind as he comes to terms with his actions.

The relentless pursuer of justice, whose story was first told on the mega-hit 2009 TV series, is back for a second go-around on the big screen in Black & White: The Dawn Of Justice, again directed by Tsai Yueh Hsun. This time, he's paired with Chen Zhen (Lin Gengxin, Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon), a smart-alecky detective from Harbor City's eastern district. Based on the successful light novel series, Library Wars is now a live-action blockbuster from the director of Gantz! V6's Okada Junichi and Eikura Nana (April Bride) team up as two members of an organization dedicated to protecting books in an alternate reality in which the media censorship authority has become an oppressive organization. Depicting the fight against media censorship as a literal battle, Library Wars is an explosive drama with spectacular action sequences, a politically relevant message about the dangers of censorship and even a heartwarming romance. Ever since the Japanese government passed a law banning dangerous books, it has gone as far as taking up arms to make sure the wrong books don't get into the wrong hands. To defend the sanctity of the library and to ensure freedom of expression in Japan, the Library Defense force was established, striking a precarious balance. Kasahara (Eikura Nana) has joined the Library Defense Force to pursue her prince, an anonymous Library Force member who protected a book for her when she was in high school. However, her instructor Dojo (Okura Junichi) has devised a difficult training regiment that she is physically incapable to handle. Kasahara manages to prove herself and is assigned to Dojo's task force, putting her in the line of fire in the long-standing war between the oppressive Media Betterment Force and the Library Defense Force.

Eighties superstar Mickey Rourke, who took a hiatus from acting and turned to professional boxing for a few years in the early 90s, makes his return to glory playing Randy "The Ram" Robinson in this Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) film. A headlining pro wrestler back in the late 80s, Randy begins to evaluate the state of his life, trying to reconcile with his estranged daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood) and strike up a romance with an aging stripper named Cassidy (Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei). Helmer Lee Seong Kang, widely known as Korea's Miyazaki Hayao for his acclaimed animated films Yobi, The Five Tailed Fox and My Beautiful Girl, Mari, pulls off a new sleight of hand with his first non-animated feature film, Texture of Skin. The erotic mystery thriller revolves around a man who indulges in sexual pleasures with his ex-lover, all the while being driven into the realm of fantasy. Riding the delicate line between horror and eroticism, the story unfolds through one man's obsession with both physical and spiritual love as he plunges into chaos triggered by ambivalence between the material world and the spiritual realm. It is not until the film's ending that the characters' relationships are clarified, tying up the loose ends to the storyline. This multi-textured arthouse film mirrors the aesthetics of Lee's earlier animations, maximizing the use of light and shade and color schemes to create an enchanting atmosphere. Scandalous in its erotic love scenes and beautifully haunting in its plot execution, Texture of Skin is written by director Lee, who is deftly assisted by Secret Sunshine's director of photography and No Regret's art director. The film received a string of international accolades including an invitation to compete in The Dragons and Tigers Award for Young Cinema at the 24th Vancouver International Film Festival. Fledging photographer Min Woo (Kim Yoon Tae, Bad Guy) witnesses the death of a woman first hand at the scene of a gruesome car accident. The next day, he bumps into his former lover Jae Hee (Kim Ju Ryong, Paradise Murdered, Memories Of Murder), a married woman whom he agrees to have sex with nine times. Amid the rabid love affair, Min Woo settles into a new apartment despite having heard some strange stories about the previous tenant. One night, while engaging in a steamy bedroom romp with Jae Hee, Min Woo sees the phantom of a mysterious girl (Choi Bo Young, Mokpo the Harbor). Curiosity turns to obsession and soon Min Woo finds himself enslaved by his former lover and a ghost. As the line between fantasy and reality starts to blur, the story unravels to a new haunting discovery.

The most beloved piggy in all of Hong Kong animation is back! Brian Tse's Mcdull series returns with its sixth big-screen installment in Mcdull, Me and My Mum! Featuring the voice talents of Mcdull regulars Sandra Ng, Anthony Wong and The Pancakes, as well as piano maestro Li Yundi, this outing by the iconic cartoon takes a closer look at Mcdull's relationship with his wonderfully headstrong mother. Courted by the FBI, Scotland Yard and the like, Bobby Mak is often referred to as the most revered private detective since Sherlock Holmes. When asked about his awe-inspiring achievements, Bobby says that everything began with his mum, Mrs. Mak. As a child, Bobby Mak was known as Mcdull. Although Mcdull wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, his mother was a different story. Her astounding intelligence and resourcefulness enabled her to, for example, simultaneously run more than six businesses from a space of less than 100 square feet. Mcdull and his mother lived together happily during Mcdull's childhood, but things began to change as Mcdull got older. A distance that never existed before began to grow between him and his mother...

Hong Kong horror movie Home Sweet Home is at once a chilling thriller and a tender love story about the lengths mothers will go to for their children. Taiwanese actress Shu Qi (Three Times) plays May, a young mother who moves into a new apartment complex with her family. But no sooner have they settled in than May's young son goes missing. It transpires that he has in fact been kidnapped by a hideously deformed woman (played by Hong Kong beauty Karena Lam, from Koma, in a mountain of grotesque make-up) who believes him to be her long lost son. May is forced into the ducts and vents of her apartment building to track down her boy, and confront this other terrifying, yet equally bereaved, mother.
