The roots of Puma, one of the prominent athletic footwear, apparel and accessories companies in the world, started in the year 1924 when Rudolph Dassler, Puma’s original creator, established a production company with his brother, Adolf. Originally, their family-owned business produced slippers and outdoor shoes, but they soon realized there is a need for athletic shoes in the market. Despite the economic downturn of the late 20s, their business took off. Puma soon gained nationwide attention when athletes begin wearing Dassler’s shoes. Sadly, due to a bitter family dispute, the brothers decided to split the company in two.
Puma continues to grow under Rudolf’s guidance and throughout the years of establishment, Puma was the first to introduce many new footwear modifications, including the vulcanized soles on soccer shoes, individually shaped soles on running shoes to boost natural motion, athletic shoes with a Velcro strap, and the Puma Disc System, which substitutes laces with a series of wires.
Today, Puma is known as the PUMA Group after it went public in 1986, and the group owns the brands PUMA, Cobra Golf, and Tretorn, as well as the linked companies Dobotex and Brandon.
These brands are closely connected with PUMA’s core business and soon will adapt and follow PUMA’s new brand guidance under the Forever Faster manifesto for their own programs. The Iconic PUMA Logo
The earliest logo ever created for PUMA entailed of a square and beast jumping through a “D”. However, to portray its exceptional quality of shoes, the logo design was changed, with minor amendments. The changed logo design is still being used till this day, which contained a leaping puma on one side with the use of a bold font and other use of bold logo design elements.
