One woman discovers the destructive power of the internet and social media in The Snow White Murder Case, based on a novel by Confessions author Minato Kanae. Directed by Nakamura Yoshihiro (Fish Story, Golden Slumbers), the mystery-drama deconstructs a seemingly open-and-shut case involving the murder of a beautiful cosmetics company employee by a "plain-looking" co-worker, played by Inoue Mao. Adopting a Rashomon-style narrative structure, Nakamura and screenwriter Hayashi Tamio (Golden Slumbers) show the devastating effects of internet rumors and how they can play with our perception of the truth. In addition to Inoue, The Snow White Murder Case also stars Ayano Go (Rurouni Kenshin) as a Twitter-obsessed reporter and popular model Nanao (Last Cinderella) as the beautiful murder victim. A beautiful woman (Nanao) working for a cosmetics company has been brutally murdered, but the police have been secretive about the details of the case. One day, ambitious television news director Akahoshi (Ayano Go) gets a call from a friend who works inside the company and learns about the rivalry between the victim and Shirono (Inoue Mao), a "plain-looking" employee who seems to have plenty of motives to commit murder. Akahoshi's subsequent investigative report creates a huge stir on social media, as netizens quickly identify the secret identity behind the "Miss S" in the report. Despite not having been officially sought out by the police, Shirono has already been persecuted publicly as the killer. What is the truth behind the case? Where is Shirono? This edition comes with a booklet featuring an essay by Minato Kanae, as well as a bonus DVD containing making of, stage events and trailers.

The first film in Yamada Yoji's acclaimed samurai trilogy, The Twilight Samurai presents a touching cinematic masterpiece about love and agony starring Sanada Hiroyuki (The Last Samurai) and Miyazawa Rie. Yamada Yoji has made every effort to display the complexities of the ancient Japanese culture and the art of sword fighting, which becomes obvious in this monumental movie whose plot is based on three short stories from popular novelist Fujisawa Shuhei. Sanada Hiroyuki plays a swordsman who has to take care of his two daughters after his wife has passed away from lung disease. As he does not engage in drinking and other merry activities, he is sneeringly nicknamed "Twilight Samurai" by his peers. Miyazawa Rie portrays his love interest, a beautiful woman with a strong will from the family of his best friend. The two protagonists become mutually attracted, but fate does not seem to be on their sides.

Japanese rock star Gackt makes his Hollywood film debut in Bunraku, an exhilarating action spectacular from writer-director Guy Moshe. Inspired by the Japanese traditional art of puppet theater (which is what the film's title refers to), Bunraku is an inventive, audacious mix of spaghetti westerns, chabara cinema, and neo-noir. In addition to Gackt as a lone swordsman, Bunraku also features an impressive cast of Hollywood stars, including Josh Harnett (I Come With the Rain) as a cowboy seeking revenge, Woody Harrelson (2012) as a bartender, Ron Perlman (Hellboy) as a villainous crime boss and Demi Moore (Ghost) as a dangerous femme fatale. In a future post-war world, guns have been outlawed, and people can only fight each other with primitive weapons like swords. One day, a nameless drifter (Josh Harnett) and a samurai (Gackt) arrive at a city looking to settle their respective scores with the Woodcutter (Ron Perlman), the crime lord that rules the city. The two are brought together by a bartender (Woody Harrelson), who always has some wisdom to offer. With other groups of people with their own agendas arriving in town, an violent battle for the control of the city is about to begin. This edition includes the film on both Blu-ray and DVD. It also comes with a bonus DVD containing an interview with Gackt and trailers.

The eclectic filmmaker best known for mysteries likes The Inerasable and The Snow White Murder Case goes full period drama with The Magnificent Nine. Based on a novel by Isoda Michifumi, the ensemble comedy-drama rounds up both fresh faces and Nakamura's past leads to form his most star-studded cast yet that includes Abe Sadao, Eita, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Takeuchi Yuko, Matsuda Ryuhei, Yamazaki Tsutomu, Yuda Chibai and even Olympic gold medal figure skater Hanyu Yuzuru in his acting debut. Juzaburo (Abe Sadao) lives in an impoverished rural town where most of the residents struggle to get by due to the heavy taxes levied by the local government. Tea grower Tokuheiji (Eita), who has recently moved back to town, suggests loaning a large sum to the government and then using the interest to help the townspeople. Though Tokuheiji made the remark in jest, Juzaburo takes the idea to heart and puts the plan into action by pooling resources with other more well-off residents to raise money for the loan. As word spreads, more people join the scheme, including Juzaburo's estranged younger brother (Tsumabuki Satoshi), but the plan begins to balloon out of his control. Immediately following the March 11 disaster in northeast Japan, director Sono Sion (Love Exposure) headed to the disaster zone to film Himizu, a bleak youth drama that concludes on a positive outlook for the future. Sono continues that outlook for post-disaster Japan in The Land of Hope, possibly the filmmaker's most optimistic film yet. Once again shot in the disaster zone in northeast Japan, the somber drama looks at life after an earthquake in a fictional prefecture sets of another nuclear crisis. While the film's setting is fictional, Sono's depiction of nuclear paranoia and unwavering optimism is clearly a reflection of post-Fukushima Japan. The Land of Hope may be restrained compared to Sono's previous films, but it remains a powerful, emotional story of nation standing tall in the face of disasters. The Ono and the Suzuki families are neighbors living in a rural town of Nagashima Prefecture (a fictional place). One day, a strong earthquake strikes the area, causing an explosion at the nearby nuclear power plant. While the Suzukis decide to evacuate to the shelter, Ono Yasuhiko (Osao Natsuyagi) is determined to stay with his senile wife in his family home, which lies right behind the mandatory evacuation line. When Yasuhiko's son Yoichi (Murakami Jun) discovers that his wife Izumi (Kagurazaka Izumi) is pregnant, Yasuhiko forces them to evacuate, leaving the two elders all alone. Despite being away from the evacuation zone, Izumi remains paranoid of the nuclear fallout and its effects on her soon-to-be-born child.

From 1969 to 1995, Yamada Yoji directed an iconic series of films titled Otoko wa Tsurai yo (a.k.a. It's Tough Being a Man) about a traveling salesman and his never-ending difficulties with love. The director shows that relationships don't get any easier with time in his 2016 film What a Wonderful Family! (a.k.a. Kazoku wa Tsurai yo). Yamada reunites the cast of Tokyo Family including Hashizume Isao, Yoshiyuki Kazuko, Tsumabuki Satoshi, Aoi Yu, Nishimura Masahiko, Natsukawa Yui, Hayashiya Shozo and Nakajima Tomoko for an astute, good-humored look into the dynamics of the modern family. Married for 50 years, Shuzo (Hashizume Isao) and Tomiko (Yoshiyuki Kazuko) live with their sons Konosuke (Nishimura Masahiko) and Shota (Tsumabuki Satoshi) as well as their daughter-in-law (Natsukawa Yui) and their grandchildren. With so many people under one roof, the house is constantly bustling with bicker and banter. On Tomiko's latest birthday, which Shuzo has as usual forgotten, she calmly asks him for a present: divorce.

Seven years after All Around Us, acclaimed writer-director Hashiguchi Ryosuke makes a welcome return with the raw and realistic human drama Three Stories of Love, which was nominated for Best Film at the 10th Asian Film Awards and selected as the Best Film of 2015 by the 89th Kinema Junpo Awards. Working with a main cast of mostly no-name actors selected through workshop auditions, Hashiguchi offers an acute examination of love, loneliness and alienation. As indicated by the title, the film weaves together a trio of stories about a grieving man (Shinohara Atsushi) overwhelmed by the murder of his wife, an elitist gay lawyer (Ikeda Ryo) with a miserable love life, and a housewife (Narushima Toko) stuck with an indifferent partner and an over-bearing mother-in-law.

Takita Yojiro's excellent 2003 samurai epic takes place in Meiji-era Japan, when the few remaining samurai were forced to choose sides and fight for either the Emperor or the Tokugawa Shogunate (a time period familiar to American audiences from The Last Samurai, but explored with more complexity and nuance here). Nakai Kiichi stars as Yoshimura Kanichiro, a principled Bushido warrior whose difficult decisions and complicated path are skillfully revealed through flashback.

Popular actor Matsuyama Kenichi (Detroit Metal City) plays a ninja on the run in Blood and Bones director Sai Yoichi's latest film Kamui. Co-scripted by acclaimed screenwriter Kudo Kankuro, the period action film is based on Shirato Sanpei's manga about a fugitive ninja hunted by his former comrades. An exciting blend of fantasy, action, and historical adventure, the film surrounds Matsuyama's lone brooding ninja with spectacular CGI and a star-studded cast that includes Koyuki (Blood: The Last Vampire), Ito Hideaki (Umizaru), veteran Kobayashi Kaoru, Tsuchiya Anna (Sakuran), Ohgo Suzuka (Into the Faraway Sky), Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng (The Storm Warriors), and Yamazaki Tsutomu as the narrator. Low-ranking ninja Kamui (Matsuyama Kenichi) seeks the freedom to live life as he wishes, but he is bound by the rules of feudal Japan and his clan. He who is born a ninja, dies a ninja. Constantly on the run from other ninjas out for his life, Kamui trusts and cares for no one until fate brings him to a fishing village where he meets fisherman Hanbei (Kobayashi Kaoru) and his family. After a series of period films, 78-year-old legendary director Yamada Yoji returns to a contemporary story for the first time in a decade with About Her Brother, the closing film of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. Stars Yoshinaga Sayuri (Year One in the North) and Tsurube Shofukutei (Dear Doctor) reunite with Yamada after Kabei - Our Mother in this unabashedly old-fashioned melodrama about family love and the sacrifices made in its name. Ginko (Yoshinaga Sayuri) seems to be living the good life: She's the respectable owner of a neighborhood drug store in Tokyo, and her daughter Kaharu (Aoi Yu) is about to get married to a doctor. However, Koharu's wedding day also brings homes Ginko's younger brother Tetsuro (Tsurube Shofukutei), a failed actor and a hard drinker who shows up causing trouble. Having covered for him all her life, Ginko is ready to disown her burdensome younger brother, but some things are easier said than done. Blu-ray Edition comes with Berlin International Film Festival screening documentary and trailers.

Directed by Shimoyama Ten, the dazzling 2005 film Shinobi centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. In the film, Nakama Yukie portrays Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen (Lily), the respected Iga clan matriarch, while Odagiri Jo plays Gennosuke, the son of Danjo Koga (Minoru Terada), the powerful Koga clan leader. While living deep within the mountains, the two ninja clans have honed their skills to superhuman levels. Unfortunately, the clans do not get along and are forbidden by imperial decree from sharing their techniques with each other. Viewing the two ninja clans as a threat to his scheme for total domination, the nefarious Nankobo Tenkai (Ishibashi Renji) plots to intensify the rivalry between the two clans. Nakobo creates a contest in which the clans are forced to choose five of their best warriors to participate. The battle, however, isn't just a friendly contest, it's a duel to the death! Early in the film, Oboro and Gennosuke meet and fall in love unaware of their clan ties, so when they are both selected to compete they are surprised to discover the truth about one another's identities. Gennosuke initially refuses to participate, but is forced to make an appearance when his compatriots start dropping like flies. The combatants in this contest are not your run-of-the-mill ninja warriors, each has powers beyond that of mortal men. There's the face-changing Saemon Kisaragi (Kinoshita Hoka), the limb-extending Yashamaru (Sakaguchi Taku), the poisonous Kagero (Kurotani Tomoka), and the all-seeing Tenzan Yakushi (Shiina Kippei) just to name a few! Thanks to a great romance plot, breathtaking special effects, and spectacular action choreography, Shinobi offers a one-of-a-kind ninja film that must be seen to be believed! The Igaban First Press Limited Edition of Shinobi comes with five Igaban character cards, plus the Igaban bonus disc, containing the following special features:Making-of documentary (60 minutes) Interviews with Yukie Nakama and Joe Odagiri Footage from the Japan premieres and press conference
