Shoei Philippines: Born From Racing

Shoei is one of the biggest names in the motorcycle helmet industry. With over 50 years of experience under its belt, Shoei has been producing some of the finest and most reliable helmets the helmet industry has ever seen. They take pride in their work of integrating countless of hours of research and development while being flexible enough to change the products based on feedback obtained from their harshest critics, their very own professional racing team. Their core belief of yielding some of the highest performance, most functional helmets come from the result of combining the latest technology, modern testing practices, advanced materials, and years of experience. The belief of perfecting every helmet that leaves their factories in Japan is of utmost importance – which is why every helmet at Shoei requires over 50 people to complete.

Inside Happenings of a Shoei Helmet

The Helmet Shell

The first layer of defence is deemed as the most important for a helmet and this is known as the helmet shell. The main function of the helmet shell is to absorb the impact energy in case of a fall by redistributing the energy over the largest possible area. To do this, Shoei’s Multi-Ply Matrix Aim and Aim+ shells combine hand-laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with organic fibers and resin to result in an incredibly strong and lightweight shell. What’s more? The shells are elastic and come in a number of sizes to allow a customized fit for heads of all shapes and sizes. For variations of Shoei helmets, check out the Shoei motorcycle page.

Ventilation

For any top-grade helmet, proper ventilation is one of the most important things to focus on because it can be dizzyingly hot and suffocating in a helmet of poor-quality build. Shoei achieves this by integrating a cooling system that utilizes the use of low air pressure areas – directing drying air into the helmet while warm and damp air is led through exhaust outlets. Apart from that, one of the key functions of the Shoei helmet is their cutting-edge wind tunnel which is used to maximize ventilation performance. With the usage of perfect alignment and effective shape of inlets and outlets, the effective ventilation found in Shoei helmets is what separates it from its competitors.

Shield

As a means of keeping dirt, insects and wind away from the rider’s face, a shield is necessary on every helmet. The shields developed by Shoei are made from a 3D injection-molding process which gives a non-distorted view throughout the entire vision radius. The shields also come with a UV protection layer that blocks off 99% of the sun’s damaging rays. Furthermore, they comply with the DOT and SNELL certification standards.

EPS Liner

The main function of the EPS layer is to absorb the energy of an impact. Shoei accomplishes this by focusing on bettering the impact absorption with the usage of different foam densities in certain areas around the rider’s head. As a result, Shoei came up with an innovative Dual-layer, Multi-Density EPS liner system that not only enhances the impact absorption but further boosts the ventilation characteristics of the helmet.

Interior System

Most of the inside of the Shoei helmet is constructed of both partially and fully removable components. This allows the rider to remove, wash, adjust, as well as to replace interior components whenever necessary. Moreover, Shoei’s helmets are built to ensure comfort and are therefore three-dimensionally shaped to match the shape of the rider’s head which also ensures no distraction with a firm hold while on your high-speed riding.

Chin Strap

Tasked with keeping the helmet firmly in place, the chin strap should not be underestimated. Shoei ensures that their chinstrap is built with materials with proper tensile strength, flexibility and extensibility. This is to ensure a comfortable fit under the chin that will not cause abrasion or discomfort. To attach the chin strap to the helmet shell, metal rivets are used to ensure durability.

The Process that Every Shoei Philippines’ Helmet Undergoes

After going through the design and development stage, Shoei’s helmets’ production process begins with priming - where the helmet is taken off a mould and all the extra bits removed with a laser. Thus, leaving behind a clean and smooth surface to undergo the painting process. The priming will then be checked for any flaws and will be handed over from technicians to technicians before being passed for painting. The quality of paint is ensured by the individual painters because a high-quality coat of paint is not possible to be applied by machines and robots.

Upon completion, the paint job is checked for flaws or unevenness before the helmet goes through the design process. Due to the fact that elaborate graphics are a part of Shoei’s identity, water decals are applied onto the helmets by specially trained technicians to complete the design of a Shoei helmet. Finally, the helmets are given multiple layers of high-quality clear varnish to protect the artwork and to give it a brilliant finishing touch. The helmets are given one last thorough check before being shipped off to you to enjoy one of the finest quality riding helmets here in Shoei Philippines.
