Apple iPhone 9 Rumors: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

21 February 2018 | Reymart Jan Sarigumba

Much like most high-profile upcoming handsets, the iPhone 9 has seen its fair share of rumors that get every Apple fan in the Philippines excited about its release. This much-awaited device might feature an upper midrange price point, facial recognition, and a chip that is more powerful than the one inside the iPhone 8. Let’s take a closer look at the rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 9.

Apple might opt for a Super Retina display on the iPhone 9, which means it won’t sport the Touch ID fingerprint sensor seen it its predecessors; hence, it may have the same user authentication as the iPhone X – that is the Face ID.

Super Retina Display

Much like the iPhone X, the iPhone 9 may be equipped with the same Super Retina display. As for the design and size of the display, expect it to have a nearly all-screen front panel just like the iPhone X. But based on the latest rumors, the iPhone 9 might wield a screen size of 6.1 inches and sport an 18:9 aspect ratio.

An Upper Midrange Price Tag

The iPhone 9’s projected price is PHP 37000 to PHP 42000 which is expensive but lower than the iPhone X’s price point. Therefore, it will have the same price range as the iPhone 8.

Much Improved Wireless Charging

Last year, Apple published a new patent that allows for long-range wireless charging, which is going to be much better than the one in the iPhone X. It works by transferring power to your handset over the air using frequencies which are designed for data communications. However, the question of whether the long-range wireless charging will be integrated into the iPhone 9 is not yet determined, as it is only a patent.

Apple A12 Chip

The iPhone 9 will most likely come with a brand-new chip which is probably the Apple A12 – the successor of the Apple A11 Bionic chip that is found in the iPhone 8. The Apple A12 will likely offer improvements in performance and battery life.

September Release Date

With Apple’s long history of iPhone releases, it makes it easy to guess the next iPhone launch date this year. Here’s a list of iPhone release dates, from iPhone 5 to iPhone 8.

  • iPhone 5 – released: September 21, 2012
  • iPhone 5s – released: September 20, 2013
  • iPhone 6 – released: September 19, 2014
  • iPhone 6s – released: September 25, 2015
  • iPhone 7 – released: September 16, 2016
  • iPhone 8 – released: September 22, 2017

This rundown of iPhone launch dates tells us that Apple tends to release a device every mid-September each year. Therefore, the iPhone 9’s release date will be set for September 2018. Apple might surprise us with a different schedule, but it’s best for them to stick with a consistent launch date since it keeps stakeholders, suppliers, and investors happy.
