Samsung Galaxy S10 Is The Perfect Camera Phone You Need Right Now

07 March 2019 | Yen Lyn Goh

Calling out all Samsung and tech enthusiasts! Samsung Galaxy series just keeps getting better every year. On its 10th anniversary, Samsung is welcoming its sleek bezel-less S10 in three different sizes, each with distinct features depending on your needs. The trio includes the S10, the S10+, and the S10e.

The S10 Can Be Your New Camera, Here’s Why

The new camera features of the S10 series come in handy for photographers who do not wish to lug bulky DSLR cameras everywhere they go. When compared with its predecessor - the Samsung S9 and S9+, the S10 definitely shows improvement in terms of camera and its features. The S10+ boasts its new 10-megapixel front-facing camera, which means you can snap crystal clear photos in 19:9 aspect ratio.

What makes the S10’s camera so unique is its rear triple-lens camera which consists of 12MP wide-angle lens, another 12MP telephoto/portrait zoom lens, and a powerful 16MP ultra-wide lens. Whenever you want to take a group selfie or capture a landscape scene, using the camera’s ultrawide camera would definitely give your photo the edge. Besides that, Samsung also made improvements to the camera’s AI which provides computational photography support and enhanced low-light shots. Here's a comparison of an image between telephoto/portrait zoom lens, wide-angle lens, and ultra-wide lens.

The S10’s front-facing camera has also received some improvements since the S9. The Samsung S10’s secondary front-facing camera has 10 megapixels and functions for the “Live Focus” feature in the camera app. Live Focus blurs out the background of portraits, making the portraits stand out better. The blurring effect can be adjusted before or after a photo is captured.

New Features from the Samsung S10 Series

Battery Life and Charging Pad

In terms of battery, Samsung gives you three options depending on which model you choose. Compared to the S9, however, there is a significant increase in battery capacity from S9 to S10 from 3000mAh to 3,400mAh. The S10 Plus has 4,100mAh battery capacity which is definitely flagship-worthy while the S10 and S10e have 3,400mAh and 3,100mAh respectively. While the S10 Plus definitely shows a significant increase in battery life, the S10 and S10e hardly exceed any flagship models from other brands this year and even some last year.

As if the battery isn’t the best part that S10 offers already, it also works as a wireless charging pad too! Whenever your wireless headphones or other devices are running out of energy, you can connect them to S10 to recharge their batteries.

Internal Specs

Despite all these high-tech functions, S10 actually performs with higher efficiency than S9 due to its latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The chipset allows the device to perform 45% faster than the Galaxy S9. It supports 5G connectivity and can run efficiently even under an increased performance.

Fingerprint Sensor and Others

What’s more, both the Galaxy S10 and S10+ come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the screen, which speeds up the unlocking process. Users can skip the power button to reach for the fingerprint sensor as the sensor can also be activated even when the screen is turned off. With the S10e being the most affordable sibling of the trio, a traditional capacitive fingerprint scanner can be spotted on the power button on the right side of the device. Besides an obvious improvement in its camera and chipset, the tech giant also precedes other competitors by integrating faster Wi-Fi 6 and HDR10+ into the Galaxy S10 this time; a first in mobile phones!
