Wes Anderson's THE Life Aquatic, a group of oceanic explorers who call themselves Team Zissou embark on a journey to hunt down the 'jaguar shark' that ate one of their crew members (Seymour Cassel). Determined to avenge the death of his dear friend, team leader Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) is melancholic about the journey he's about to make. Meanwhile, financial troubles and nostalgia for his past make Zissou behave like a reckless playboy, an ageing softy, and a past-his-prime tyrant. Surrounding Zissou are a hodgepodge of eccentrics--a pregnant journalist doing a magazine feature (Cate Blanchett), an airline pilot from Kentucky who claims he is Zissou's son (Owen Wilson), an emotionally needy European (Willem Dafoe), an acoustic guitarist who sings David Bowie songs in Brazilian Portuguese (Seu Jorge), Zissou's brilliant wife (Anjelica Houston), and her ex-husband who is Zissou's seafaring nemesis (Jeff Goldblum). Clad in baby-blue polyester uniforms, Adidas sneakers, and red stocking caps, Team Zissou is a sight to see. And as their deep-sea adventure takes them into dangerous waters where they are attacked by pirates and dazzled by CGI fish, the group finds magic both in their bonds to each other and in the colourful world around them. In keeping with Anderson's unique brand of escapist humour, these caricatured characters are nothing short of fascinating. While their lives are extraordinary, they act bored, dwelling on banalities like hurt feelings, jealousy, and loneliness. The more absurd their stories are, the more believable their quirky personalities become. With plenty of hilarious moments offsetting the film's tongue-in-cheek sentimentalism, THE Life Aquatic is sure to please seasoned Anderson fans and make new ones of the uninitiated. Read more
Please note this is a region 2 DVD and will require a region 2 or region free DVD player in order to play. In THE Pacifier Vin Diesel is great as a navy seal turned babysitter in this kid-friendly action comedy. A botched rescue mission (brimming with stunts) results in the death of a scientist and the hospitalization of seal team-leader Shane Wolf. Once he recovers, he is assigned to duty as a bodyguard for the dead man's family. But even for a seal--toughened to the point of stoniness--dealing with the chaos, smells, noises, and complexities of a large, fatherless family proves to be a heavy challenge. The kids don't like his authoritative ways and they have no problem defying him at every turn. Eventually everybody bonds and while the family teaches him to listen and relax, he teaches them the combat skills they need to succeed in suburban Los Angeles. It's all very funny but the film really works best as a showcase for the range of Diesel; he takes his pratfalls in stride, his character's devotion to military discipline and honour is inspiring; and his bonding with the family is sweet without being saccharine. What's more, he still gets the chance to kick some serious bad-guy butt. Lauren Graham (Bad Santa) plays the kindly grade school principal and love interest. Everybody Loves RAYMOND's Brad Garrett is hilarious as a sadistic wrestling coach. There's also a crotch-biting pet duck, ninjas, sewer-diving, a troop of kung fu-fighting girl scouts, and the hilarious 'panda dance'. Read more

Please note this is a region 2 DVD and will require a region 2 or region free DVD player in order to play. Lady is the pampered female dog belonging to Jim Dear and Darling. When her human masters bring a baby into the house, Lady feels she's being eased out; and when Darling's insufferable Aunt Sarah introduces her nasty twin Siamese cats into the fold, Lady is certain that she's no longer welcome. The cats wreak all manner of havoc, for which Lady is blamed. After the poor dog is fitted with a muzzle, Lady escapes from the house, only to run across the path of the Tramp, a raffish male dog from the "wrong" side of town. The Tramp helps Lady remove her muzzle, then takes her out on a night on the town, culminating in a romantic spaghetti dinner, courtesy of a pair of dog-loving Italian waiters. After their idyllic evening together, Lady decides that it's her duty to protect Darling's baby from those duplicitous Siamese felines. On her way home, Lady is captured and thrown in the dog pound. Here she learns from a loose-living mutt named Peg that The Tramp is a canine rake. Disillusioned, Lady is more than happy to be returned to her humans, even though it means that she'll be chained up at the insistence of Aunt Sarah. Tramp comes into Lady's yard to apologize, but she wants no part of him. Suddenly, a huge, vicious rat breaks into the house, threatening the baby. Lady breaks loose, and together with Tramp, runs into the house to protect the infant. When the dust settles, it appears to Aunt Sarah that Tramp has tried to attack the child. That's when Lady's faithful friends Jock the bloodhound and Trusty the scottie swing into action, rescuing Tramp from the dogcatcher. Once Jim Dear and Darling are convinced that Tramp is a hero, he is invited to stay...and come next Christmas, there's a whole flock of little Ladies and Tramps gathered around the family. Read more

Why Blu-Ray Should be the Only Way You Watch Movies

Now that there is an abundance of streaming video-on-demand services online that offers movies at 1080p resolution, Blu-Rays are not enjoying the popularity that they deserve. It is true that Blu-Rays cost more than your monthly streaming service or a regular DVD that you can buy from your neighbourhood store but you can rest assured that they are worth the price, thanks to these following reasons:

Blu-Ray Offers Better Video Quality

Slowly but surely, video streaming services are improving the quality of their video streams, with many offering up to 1080p resolution. However, the resolution is just a part of the formula to produce superior video quality. Although these services may be able to deliver the same resolution as Blu-Ray, a lot more compression methods such as banding and softness is used to deliver the content over the Internet, thus hindering picture quality. Streaming sites need to compress the movies they offer to lower the file size and bit rates so that the movies can be downloaded and streamed faster. Blu-Ray discs provide ample amounts of storage space – at least five times more than DVDs – enabling content providers to deliver content with less compression needed.

Blue-Ray Provides Superior Audio Quality

The picture is not everything as the audio is what makes you immersed into the movie that you are watching. If you have ever watched a movie on Blu-Ray format before, you know what we are talking about when we say that the audio quality provided by this format is mind-blowing. Blu-Ray’s awesome visuals are complemented with crisp and clear audio presentation that streaming services and DVDs are unable to replicate, hence elevating your movie-watching experience one level higher. The ample space available in Blu-Ray discs allows for uncompressed multi channel audio to be inserted, translating to incomparable audio quality. Nothing draws you more into a film than feeling that you are in the heart of the action and Blu-Rays can do just that.

Blu-Ray Features More Bonus Content

Blu-Ray discs are often loaded with bonus content – behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive interviews, the making-of documentaries, bonus scenes, et cetera – that you will not be able to enjoy on streaming services or on DVDs. Although many streaming services have now included some bonus content with certain movie purchases, they are still unable to rival what you can get on Blu-Rays in both quantity and quality. Besides that, Blu-Rays also allow viewers to explore menu options without leaving the movie, and to bookmark favourite scenes – two very useful features that DVDs and some streaming services are unable to offer.

Furthermore, one bonus feature that is often added into Blu-Ray movie discs is a digital copy of the movie that you can use on your portable devices so you can watch them anytime and anywhere you desire, removing the need to rely on Blu-Ray players.
